Department NameThe Summer Student role is an entry level position on the Security Operations team. This position is responsible for helping support day-to-day cybersecurity operations and learning from a team that supports security initiatives across the Southwest Local Delivery Group (LDG) and its Healthcare Service Providers (HSPs).
This position offers a great opportunity to learn and participate in incident response (triage, investigate, respond, contain and document), log analysis, vulnerability management, security tool development/tuning and threat hunting. This position will interface with experienced LDG, HSP, and MSSP technical resources when required.
The Summer Student duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Participate in incident detection, analysis, response, containment, and post incident documentation.
- Perform log analysis, computer forensics, and proactive threat hunting.
- Develop, test, and tune custom detections and use cases/alerts.
- Utilize, administer, and support LDG security-related platforms and technologies.
- Help HSPs onboard their assets to LDG multiple security-related platforms.
- Research and keep up to date on current and emerging threats/vulnerabilities.
- Assess, communicate, and help prioritize the risks associated with vulnerabilities/threats found at HSP sites.
- Leverage automation and orchestration solutions to automate repetitive tasks.
- Technical knowledge of any of the following traditional security technologies is preferred:
- Antivirus (AV)/Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) - MS Defender/CrowdStrike
- Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) - Splunk
- Security Orchestration Automation and Response (SOAR)
- Risk-based vulnerability management - Tenable
- Threat Intelligence platforms (TIP)
- Standards, frameworks, and regulations (NIST, ICS, PCI, MITRE ATT&CK, PHIPA, PIPEDA, etc.)
- Public Key Infrastructure (PKI)
- OSS tools
- A working knowledge of any of the following related technologies is preferred:
- Operating Systems (Windows, Linux, Mac, ESXI, etc.)
- Networking (firewalls, OSI model, NAC, segmentation, etc.)
- Development (Python, PHP, GIT, SDL, etc.)
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to balance multiple and competing priorities.
- Excellent verbal, written and listening skills, including technical documentation like procedures, playbooks, and write ups.
- Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
- Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
- Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC's Vision, Purpose, and Values
- Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
