Job Summary

The Balanced Bark is a well established, reputable dog daycare, training and grooming facility.

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Dog Groomer to join our pet care team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for animal grooming and handling, with experience in pet care and animal restraint. This role involves providing high-quality grooming services to dogs of all breeds and sizes, ensuring their comfort and safety throughout the process. The Dog Groomer will also manage pet grooming consultations, maintain a clean grooming environment, and deliver excellent customer service to pet owners. Someone who is enthusiastic and hard working is essential to become a part of our team. There is a lot of opportunity to grow here with us if you are up for the job.

We only employ one groomer, but you will have the help as-needed from staff and management. The Balanced Bark will provide a grooming room with a tub, table, dryers, shampoo, towels and all necessities except scissors and blades available for your use.

Responsibilities

  • Perform professional grooming services including bathing, trimming, clipping, and styling of dogs according to breed standards and customer preferences
  • Handle dogs safely using proper restraint techniques to ensure both pet and groomer safety
  • Provide pet care guidance and communicate effectively with pet owners regarding grooming needs and recommendations
  • Maintain cleanliness of grooming tools, equipment, and work area in compliance with health and safety standards
  • Assist with animal handling during grooming procedures, ensuring animals are comfortable and stress-free
  • Monitor pets for signs of distress or health issues during grooming sessions and report concerns appropriately
  • Keep detailed records of grooming services provided, special instructions, and pet health notes

Experience

  • 2+ years experience and/or grooming certificate
  • Prior experience in pet grooming is required; familiarity with dog training techniques is a plus
  • Able to trim nails, clean ears, brush, bathe, blow dry, use clippers/scissors to trim/shave down, breed cuts (Scissoring skills is a must)
  • Must have own scissors and clippers/blades
  • Animal handling skills including dog handling, animal restraint, and kennel experience are highly valued
  • Customer service skills are essential for communicating effectively with pet owners and providing a positive experience
  • Experience in pet sitting or heavy lifting related to animal care is beneficial for managing various size pets confidently
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Weekend availability is a bonus
