Komatsu's Underground Hard Rock team is looking for a
Hydraulic Rock Drill Technician
to join our Sudbury shop. If you know your way around Montabert drills, thrive on rebuilds, and take pride in keeping machines running at their best, this is your chance to work with a team that values skill, safety, and craftsmanship.
Reports to:
General Supervisor
Shift:
5x2 Monday- Friday (with occasional overtime)
Safety Sensitive:
Yes- drug & alcohol testing, physical demand fit testing, RCMP criminal record check and submission of 5-year provincial driving record will be required
Travel:
up to 25% travel within Canada and the USA
Relocation:
This position does not offer relocation
Key Job Responsibilities
- Tear down, inspect, and rebuild drifters and drilling components to OEM standards
- Repair and recondition hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems
- Perform precision measurements, fit‑ups, and post‑rebuild testing for performance and reliability
- Support shop tasks: rework, machining prep, assembly, troubleshooting
- Maintain tooling, fixtures, and test equipment in top condition
- Prepare accurate work orders, parts lists, and rebuild documentation
- Follow Komatsu safety policies and keep a clean, organized shop
Qualifications/Requirements
- Journeyperson Heavy Duty Equipment Technician 421A ticket (Red Seal an asset)
- 2–5 years' experience with hydraulic drills/components (Montabert preferred)
- Strong mechanical aptitude with teardown, inspection, and precision assembly skills
- Knowledge of hydraulic systems, air systems, and drilling mechanisms
- Solid troubleshooting and diagnostic ability
- Able to read technical manuals, schematics, and OEM guidelines
- Detail‑oriented, safety‑focused, and committed to teamwork and quality
