Division: Utilities and EnvironmentDepartment: Saskatoon WaterTerm: 2 Permanent Full Time positions available.Closing Date: 11/10/2025Labour Group: CUPE 47Posting: 4568Job SummaryReporting into the Water Operations Manager, this position operates a loader and other heavy equipment and performs plant operation and maintenance duties.Duties & ResponsibilitiesOperates a front-end loader to clean and maintain sludge beds, buries waste material, and removes snow from plant grounds and sewage pumping station roadways.Operates and moves pumping equipment at the sludge-dewatering site to remove sludge or water from various cells and areas.Opens and closes the appropriate valves and overflow weirs to run the sludge-dewatering operation efficiently and effectively.Performs routine plant operation and maintenance as required.Performs minor repairs and maintenance checks on vehicles and heavy-duty equipment.Assists with building and grounds maintenance including the application of herbicides and other chemicals as required.Performs duties of Maintenance Assistant as required.Performs other related duties as assigned.QualificationsEducation, Training And Experience RequirementsGrade 12 education.One year's experience operating a front-end loader, grader, bulldozer, forklift, bobcat and/or other heavy equipment.Possession, or successful completion within six months after date of hire, of a Certificate of Completion for the California State University courses for Operation of Wastewater Treatment Plants (Volume I and II).Possession of, or ability to obtain within one month of hire, a valid Industrial Vegetation Commercial Pesticide Applicator License.Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid, recognized first aid certificate.Knowledge, Abilities And SkillsKnowledge of equipment limitations.Knowledge of common safety practices and procedures.Ability to perform minor service maintenance on front-end loaders, graders, tandem trucks and other equipment.Ability to operate heavy-duty equipment.Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions.Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with other employees and the public.Physical ability to perform the assigned duties.Conditions of Employment: Acceptable current Criminal Record Check (CRC) upon offer of employment.Weekly Hours: 38.75Salary Range: $29.00 CAD per hour (2023 rates)Diversity, Equity and InclusionThe City of Saskatoon offers an inclusive workplace that embraces diverse backgrounds.
