Job Description:
Reporting to the Associate Director, International Recruitment and Business Development, the Senior Regional Manager is responsible for managing the implementation of initiatives of the International Education Centre in the areas of student recruitment, projects and partnerships, marketing, and business development with international institutions and organizations within the Americas, Western and Southern Western and Southern Africa. This includes development, in consultation with the Associate Director, and implementation for the Americas and Western and Southern Western and Southern Africa of an annual international recruitment, conversion and marketing strategy/plan for off-shore and on-shore applications/enrolment of International students at Algonquin College, including satellite campuses, effective agent/recruitment partner management and oversight processes, and a business development plan for international projects and partnerships as per the International Education Centre's annual business plan targets.
The Senior Regional Manager is responsible for developing expert knowledge of the assigned region(s) economic and social drivers, key industries and industry leaders, the educational sector and any trends in education and demographics of markets/region associated with this role. Through close collaboration with Associate Director, the Senior Regional Manager is responsible for continuously developing and adapting recruitment/partnership strategies, ensuring the alignment of the college's international strategies with the dynamic landscape of the assigned regions/markets.
The incumbent is responsible, in consultation with and at the direction of the Associate Director, for analyzing and developing international project and contract opportunities, formulating proposals and working with Algonquin College personnel to respond to projects and contracts sent out for tender. The incumbent is responsible for managing a marketing and recruitment budget for their regions of responsibility which includes oversight of multiple individual offshore representative office budgets. The incumbent leads and supports a team of program support staff, and contract staff, both on-shore and off-shore in the implementation of regional international recruitment strategies and implementation of annual international recruitment plans, managing the preparation and dissemination of marketing materials, coordination of fair registrations and travel for team members and the development of marketing tools such as print materials, ads, website information and social media tools based upon international market research and trends. The incumbent manages the screening of education agents who have been contracted by the IEC and supervises the agent contracts, agent materials and agent commission payments and evaluates performance on a quarterly basis. In addition, the incumbent is responsible for ensuring that Algonquin College adheres to the Provincial International Student Recruitment Standards and any additional standards imposed on the college in the future by various levels of government or regulatory bodies.
The incumbent is responsible for business development, dissemination of marketing materials, development and coordination of project proposals and contract bids, and travel for the development and managing of projects. The incumbent is responsible for analyzing international markets and student movement, gathering marketing intelligence, and keeping abreast with the changes in markets as well as identifying new markets and products for recruitment and business development. The position requires routine international travel and communication with foreign governments, Canadian government departments, post-secondary institutions, embassies and high commissions, and businesses, students, agents, and schools.
The incumbent is also responsible for promoting and representing Algonquin College nationally and internationally, through the following activities: travelling overseas to establish off-shore operations and institutional partnerships; representing the College on international contract consortia; participating and/or representing the College with boards or committees of government and non-government organizations advocating international education initiatives, policies and procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Strategic Planning
In consultation with the Associate Director, develops market responsive international recruitment strategies and business development strategies for international markets within their area of responsibility to support growth in both international student enrolments and net revenue for the college. The incumbent is responsible for researching new Requests for Proposals (RFPs) or similar such business opportunities while analyzing trends in the current markets in order increase international enrolment and business development opportunities for the college. In consultation with the Associate Director, develops the annual international student recruitment and marketing plans for their area of responsibility, identifies and proposes the allocation of budgets for these plans both for their geographic regions of responsibility as a whole and for regional offshore office representatives and supports the development of annual IEC strategic business plans.
Regional International Recruitment and Business Development Management
The incumbent implements regional international recruitment and business development strategies, including management of region/country specific strategies implemented by offshore office staff, and marketing tools for the international market within their region of responsibility. The incumbent is responsible for achieving enrolment targets (forecasts) for their regions of focus and for identifying marketing channels nationally and internationally which will result in increased student inquiries, leads and applications;
The incumbent increases the presence of Algonquin College internationally through the management of teams of additional regional offshore contract staff, identifying optimal marketing channels, overseeing reliable agent networks and developing and growing direct recruitment channels through social media and partnerships with universities and high schools, and supporting recruitment and conversion activities. The incumbent monitors, reviews and evaluates the performance of each market for results;
The incumbent manages the Algonquin College regional office(s) in their geographic area of focus and monitors the relevant market performance, results and trends and provides strategic market specific input to the overall college strategic enrolment plan;
The incumbent is responsible for both generating, nurturing and converting leads into applicants to increase final enrolment of new students from the assigned markets and supporting Algonquin's offshore offices in similar recruitment activities including but not limited to agent visits, attending events and fairs;
The incumbent recruits and manages the performance of educational agents who will help to increase international student enrolments at Algonquin in assigned markets. They must identify, train and guide educational agents and monitor their performance to ensure the college's reputation is preserved and achievement of enrolment outcomes is met. They resolve agent issues and student complaints involving agents. They must travel to assigned regional markets to conduct seminars and presentations at education fairs, schools and other venues; attend education fairs (trade shows) and maintain consistent communication with client groups to ensure continued growth;
The incumbent manages the international application funnel and enrolment management for their designated region in Algonquin College's CRM and Application systems. They are responsible for overseeing the entire spectrum of international student applications, from initial inquiry to enrolment, and for implementing strategic initiatives to not only attract qualified applicants but ensure the application process is seamless and maximizes conversion based on region's specificities.
International Project Management
The incumbent travels internationally for project management, project development, student recruitment, monitoring overseas campuses and programs, and oversees student recruitment and business development activities undertaken by local/regional staff. The incumbent must be willing to travel outside of Canada. This may involve periods of extensive travel time from 1 week to 8 weeks or more, attending project partner institutions, recruitment and educational fairs, visiting schools, meeting prospective corporate/governmental clients, and the delivery of presentations in foreign markets.
International Outreach and Business Development Initiatives
The incumbent implements a communication strategy to promote Algonquin to f educational institutes, and partner agencies in countries around the world. The incumbent attends educational fairs and conferences in order to develop new business nationally and internationally for the IEC and develops proposals for the international market, donor agencies, funding bodies. The incumbent is responsible for identifying potential projects nationally and internationally. This involves project design, project development, proposal writing, and project management. It also involves reviewing donor publications and RFPs nationally and internationally targeting specific regions and markets as well as researching development opportunities abroad to ensure Algonquin College is competitive in the global educational marketplace.
Program Development and Market Recommendations
The incumbent liaises with Chairpersons, Program Coordinators, and Faculty to follow the development of new programs and make recommendations on potential business development in overseas markets for key programs in demand internationally. Identifies and recommends market specific methods of business development to overseas clients.
External Engagement
The International Education Centre hosts many high-level delegations from foreign countries visiting the college for the purposes of exploring business opportunities and potential partnerships and belongs as a member to a range of external organizations. The incumbent will be responsible for representing the College during delegation visits for the purposes of business and partnership development. The incumbent may also be responsible for representing the college on Boards and/or committees established by external organizations to which the college belongs as a member.

Required Qualifications:
Minimum four (4) year Bachelor's degree in business or related field;
Project management certification and RISIA/RCIC certification considered assets;
Experience in international marketing and recruitment in education, and/or international admissions, and/or in working with educational consultants, and/or business development;
Experience in a Higher Education institution in a high demand client service environment;
Experience in a culturally diverse environment and working knowledge of the educational systems in overseas countries;
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered;
Experience with Customer Relationship Management (CRM), familiarity with Salesforce will be considered an asset;
Excellent diplomacy, negotiations, conflict resolution and presentation skills;
Excellent knowledge of college programs and admission requirements;
Proficiency in a Windows Office 365 environment including MS Outlook; Word processing; Excel; PowerPoint, Visio, etc.;
Proficiency in a second language considered an asset;
Minimum five (5) years work experience in a business development, partnerships, marketing or recruitment's international department of a Canadian post-secondary educational institution, or similar work environment, is required;
Experience with overseas travel, often in regions that lack Western-style amenities, is required as well as the ability to communicate with diplomacy, judgement, and tact with clients from different cultures.
