Position Overview
OpTalent is seeking, on behalf of a leading company in the juvenile products industry, a Development Engineer / Project Manager to drive the end-to-end development, validation, and delivery of child restraint systems (CRS) and other juvenile products for the Canadian market. Acting as a key link between Product, Engineering, and Quality & Regulatory, this role ensures products meet performance, safety, and regulatory standards while supporting timely project execution and cross-functional alignment.
Key Responsibilities
Product Development & Engineering

Implement design changes and modifications to address performance, safety, and validation issues.

Develop, revise, and approve CAD drawings and tooling designs for new or modified products.

Coordinate design updates with global teams to meet Canadian regulatory and QA requirements.

Maintain engineering documentation with full traceability and version control.
-
Support development of instruction manuals and labels for technical accuracy.
Testing & Validation
-
Plan, coordinate, and document design validation and verification testing.
-
Develop and maintain Design Validation Plans (DVPs) aligned with regulatory standards.

Execute validation testing, collect data, and compile full test packages for QA review.

Track validation progress, risks, and non-conformances, and implement corrective actions.
Supplier & Manufacturing Coordination

Collaborate with global teams and suppliers on tooling, validation samples, and technical issues.

Monitor prototype, pilot builds, and supplier outputs to ensure compliance with specifications.

Support process improvements, rework, and inspections linked to validation findings.
Project Management & Communication

Manage project timelines to align validation, tooling, and testing with new product development.

Provide updates to Product and QA leadership on progress, risks, and engineering issues.

Facilitate cross-functional meetings, design reviews, and alignment on corrective actions.

Act as a liaison between Product, QA, and global engineering teams to ensure compliance execution.
Continuous Improvement & Market Support

Capture lessons learned from validation and field performance to improve future designs.

Drive design-for-compliance initiatives to reduce test failures and increase first-pass success.

Support updates to existing products for regulatory or QA-driven changes.
Performance & Shared Goals

Deliver new products on time with first-pass certification success and minimal post-launch issues.

Maintain organized, complete validation documentation to support QA sign-off and audits.

Proactively reduce test rework and validation delays through engineering improvements.
Qualifications & Skills

Strong experience in product development, project management, and validation of juvenile products or similar regulated industries.

Proficiency in CAD and technical documentation.
-
Strong collaboration and communication skills across cross-functional and global teams.

Knowledge of Canadian, U.S., and global regulatory requirements for juvenile products.

Willingness to travel within Canada, U.S., and China as required.
