Job Description

The Assistant Surveyor is responsible for the management of all field site-specific surveying activities using legal control points provided to us by a registered surveyor. This person must be able to communicate effectively with the project manager and the Superintendent to stay abreast of all changes and requirements. The assistant surveyor is responsible for providing laying and elevations so that all construction activity can be properly built with in the desired locations.

  • Verify the accuracy of survey data, including measurements and calculations conducted at survey sites.
  • Able to work with total station equipment (Leica or Trimble), laser levels, and GPS systems.
  • Record the results of surveys, including the shape, contour, location, elevation, and dimensions of land or land features.
  • Calculate heights, depths, relative positions, and other characteristics of terrain.
  • Prepare or supervise preparation of all data, charts, plots, maps, records, and documents related to surveys.
  • Plan and conduct ground layout designed to establish baselines, elevations, and other geodetic measurements.
  • Coordinate findings with the work of engineering and architectural personnel, clients, and others concerned with projects.
  • Locate fixed points for use in creating maps, using geodetic and gps for site requirements using control points provided by registered surveyors.
  • Analyze survey objectives and specifications in order to prepare survey proposals or to direct others in survey proposal preparation.
  • Able to coordinate with the BIM department to develop a live model which includes As-builts.

Qualifications

  • Technical diploma or equivalent experience.
  • Technical diploma and/or Gold Seal certification are considered assets.
  • Leadership training and safety certificates.
  • Three or more years of supervisory or management experience in the construction field is an asset
  • Able to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, field drawings and plans.
  • An advanced understanding of all construction trades and techniques.
  • Commitment to working in a team environment, and good team-building abilities.
  • Knowledge of local, provincial and federal workplace compliance regulations, ordinances, legislation and building codes.
  • Strong leadership and problem-solving skills.
