This role is suited for a senior safety professional who has led COR and ISO audits, understands how systems perform in the field, and can confidently guide clients through compliance, certification, and continuous improvement.

Role Overview

Reporting to the Managing Consultant, the Health & Safety Manager is responsible for leading client health and safety management systems, including COR and ISO audit leadership, regulatory compliance, inspections, investigations, and program development.

You will act as the senior safety authority for assigned client accounts and provide strategic guidance to owners, senior managers, supervisors, and workers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage COR certification and maintenance audits, including internal audits, external audits, and corrective action planning
  • Lead or support ISO-based management system audits (ISO 45001 and related standards)
  • Prepare clients for audits through gap analysis, document review, and system improvements
  • Develop, track, and verify corrective and preventative action plans to audit closure
  • Act as the primary point of contact with auditors and certification bodies

Senior Consulting and Advisory

  • Serve as the senior health and safety advisor for assigned clients
  • Provide expert guidance on Ontario OHSA, Construction Regulation 213/91, and Industrial Establishments Regulation 851
  • Develop, review, and implement health and safety programs, policies, and procedures
  • Attend client leadership meetings and provide executive-level reporting and recommendations

Site Inspections and Compliance

  • Conduct regular construction and industrial site inspections
  • Prepare detailed inspection reports with clear corrective actions and follow-up tracking
  • Verify implementation and effectiveness of corrective measures

Incident Investigation and Prevention

  • Lead incident and near-miss investigations
  • Perform root cause analysis and develop corrective and preventative actions
  • Track corrective actions to completion and verify effectiveness

Training and Safety Engagement

  • Deliver site orientations, supervisor training, and leadership safety sessions
  • Prepare and deliver toolbox talks, safety alerts, and safety communications
  • Support and advise Joint Health and Safety Committees and Worker Trades Committees

Team Support and Oversight

  • Mentor and support Health and Safety Coordinators and junior staff
  • Review reports, audits, and field documentation for quality and consistency
  • Assist with internal process improvements and standardization

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum 5 to 7 years of construction health and safety experience
  • Demonstrated experience leading COR audits as an Auditor or Lead Auditor
  • Demonstrated experience leading or managing ISO health and safety audits (ISO 45001 preferred)
  • Strong working knowledge of Ontario OHSA and applicable regulations
  • Post-secondary education in Health and Safety or a related field
  • NCSO designation required or actively working toward
  • Train-the-Trainer certifications considered an asset
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to GTA project sites
