Our client is a well established engineering and manufacturing company of Hydraulic, Pneumatic, Electro-Hydraulic Actuators and process control systems. Engineering and R&D
to lead and expand our technical team and expertise.
Overview
As the director of Engineering and R&D, you will be responsible for overseeing the development of new products, leading cross-functional teams, and optimizing designs and processing cycle times while always meeting or exceeding our customers' specifications.
The ideal candidate is an electrical engineer by training with hands-on electrical experience and with a deep understanding of pneumatic and hydraulic systems and applications.
The candidate will collaborate with outside sales and the quote team to provide solutions for customer applications as well as collaborate with manufacturing to ensure products meet with design specifications and implement corrective actions when necessary.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership:
Provide strategic leadership to the engineering and R&D teams across multiple disciplines (electrical, mechanical, automation)
- Ensure the technical feasibility, design integrity and manufacturability of all electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrohydraulic solutions
Drive cross-functional collaboration between engineering, production, sales, and quality departments
Product development and innovation:
Lead the research and development of new solutions
Guide projects from concept to testing, ensuring alignment with market requirements and cost targets
Electrical & Control Systems Engineering:
Provide subject-matter expertise in electrical design
- Coordinate and communicate with materials and components suppliers on new 3rd party products
- Responsible for all electrical designs, schematics, layouts and all part selection attached
Responsible for generating all required operation and maintenance manuals/documentation
Engineering Design and Processing:
Establish the best practices for product design, documentation and testing
- Ensure optimal standardization of product design and nomenclature
- Establish and implement corrective and preventive actions regarding non-conformities
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or master's degree in Electrical Engineering
- Minimum 10 years of experience in engineering leadership roles, ideally in a manufacturing environment involving fluid power systems
- Member of the OIQ (order of engineers of Quebec)
- Proven experience in the design and integration of electrohydraulic and/or hydraulic and/or pneumatic systems
- Proficiency in electrical systems design
- Knowledgeable in manufacturing process and fluid power systems design
- Proficiency in design software, Solidwork
- Safety norms – DG
- Strong leadership, project management and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage multiple projects
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to represent the company to customers, partners and vendors
- Fluent in both French and English
- Hands-on experience with electrical and fluid power systems a strong asset
The successful candidate will work from the Montreal office. Salary is commensurate with experience.
