About the Role

The Child & Youth Worker supports children and youth living at Kw'i Lelum Second Stage Transitional Housing. The role provides a predictable, nurturing, and safe environment, offering childminding and weekly programming that builds connection, emotional regulation, and resilience. The Child & Youth Worker collaborates closely with caregivers and the program team to support children and youth in healing from trauma while strengthening family bonds and belonging.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create a safe, welcoming, and developmentally supportive space for children and youth
  • Provide childminding to support caregiver participation in programming and appointments
  • Assist in planning and facilitating weekly child and youth programming
  • Build positive and respectful relationships with mothers, caregivers, children, and youth
  • Respond to behavioural and emotional needs using trauma-informed, non-punitive approaches
  • Maintain safe, clean, and engaging play materials and activity spaces
  • Ensure documentation and communication align with CWAVS standards

What You Bring

  • Minimum one year of experience supporting children and youth in community, school, or residential settings
  • Strong understanding of trauma, attachment, child development, and the dynamics of gender-based violence
  • Diploma in Child and Youth Care (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • Ability to remain grounded when working with disclosures or complex emotions
  • Values rooted in inclusion, cultural humility, and non-judgmental, client-centered support
  • Experience facilitating group activities for children and youth (an asset)
  • Knowledge of community resources for women and children (an asset)

Other Requirements

  • First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain)
  • Successful Criminal Record Check (working with vulnerable populations)
