The Quality Assurance Coordinator is responsible for maintaining our Food Safety and Quality Management Systems (FSQMS). You will serve as the primary liaison for regulatory bodies (CFIA, USDA) and ensure ongoing compliance with SQF Level II standards. This role requires a "hands-on" approach, balancing documentation and audit management with floor-level monitoring of our cooking and packaging processes.

Key Responsibilities

1. Regulatory Compliance (CFIA & USDA)

  • Act as the primary contact for CFIA inspectors; accompany inspectors during routine inspections and CVS (Compliance Verification System) tasks.
  • Manage export documentation and requirements for the USA, ensuring compliance with USDA and FDA regulations (FSMA).
  • Maintain the Preventive Control Plan (PCP) in accordance with the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations (SFCR).
  • Oversee label compliance for both Canadian and US markets (nutritional facts, ingredient decks, and allergens).

2. SQF System Management

  • Maintain and update the SQF Level II system, ensuring all registers, SOPs, and policies are audit ready.
  • Lead the internal audit program; identify non-conformances and implement Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA).
  • Assist in annual third-party SQF recertification audits.

3. Operational Quality Control (QC)

  • Oversee the HACCP plan, specifically monitoring Critical Control Points (CCPs) for heat-treated, animal-based entrees (cooking temperatures and cooling logs).
  • Conduct pre-operational inspections (swabbing and visual checks) to ensure sanitation standards are met before production begins.
  • Manage the hold-and-release program for finished goods.
  • Oversee the environmental monitoring program (Listeria/Salmonella swabbing) and allergen control program.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Food Science, Microbiology, or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience: 3+ years of QA/QC experience in a food manufacturing environment. Experience with meat/poultry or thermal processing (sauces/soups) is highly preferred.
  • Regulatory Knowledge:
  • Strong working knowledge of CFIA regulations and the SFCR.
  • Familiarity with USDA/FSIS import requirements for meat products.
  • Knowledge of FSMA (PCQI) is a strong asset.
  • Certifications:
  • HACCP Certification (Required).
  • SQF Practitioner or implementation experience (Required).
  • PCQI (Preventive Controls Qualified Individual) (Preferred).
  • Skills: Strong attention to detail, ability to stand ground on safety decisions, and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel/Word).
