Director, Philanthropy
We offer a competitive remuneration package, including base pay (up to $130,000), bonus, comprehensive employer-paid health benefits, pension plan participation, generous paid time off, support for professional development, and a hybrid work model.
Purpose
The Director, Philanthropy is a key member of the Foundation's fundraising team, driving transformational fundraising efforts to support Providence Health Care. This role combines strategic leadership, donor relationship management, and team mentorship to ensure ambitious fundraising goals are achieved and exceeded.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Partner with the Executive Director to design and execute a comprehensive major gifts strategy that meets annual and long-term fundraising objectives.
- Lead the creation of annual and multi-year strategic and operational plans aligned with the Foundation's Road Map.
- Build, mentor, and inspire a high-performing philanthropy team by setting clear goals, accountability measures, and providing ongoing coaching.
- Manage major gifts pipelines and prospect assignments across the philanthropy team, ensuring accurate and timely data management in Raiser's Edge NXT.
- Provide cross-campaign leadership, fostering innovative, integrated strategies to maximize philanthropic revenue and long-term growth.
Fundraising Excellence
- Set, monitor, and achieve ambitious portfolio and campaign fundraising targets.
- Manage a personal portfolio of 100–125 major donors and prospects, with annual fundraising goals exceeding $3M.
- Cultivate, solicit, and steward prospects capable of making major, blended, or planned gifts.
- Engage and prepare volunteers, campaign leaders, and fundraising advisory council members to support major gift cultivation and solicitation activities.
- Stay current on trends in charitable giving, as well as tax and legal considerations affecting philanthropy.
People Leadership
- Act as a mentor, coach, and resource to team members within and beyond the philanthropy portfolio.
- Create career development and succession planning opportunities for staff to encourage growth and retention.
- Contribute to Foundation-wide success by collaborating across teams, referring prospects, and generating shared opportunities.
- Lead or co-lead cross-functional projects that advance the Foundation's mission.
Qualifications
Experience
- 8+ years of progressively senior fundraising experience, with a proven track record of securing major gifts and exceeding revenue targets.
- Demonstrated success in leading teams and managing senior volunteers to achieve organizational goals.
- Experience in healthcare philanthropy and/or large-scale capital campaigns strongly preferred.
- Proficiency with Raiser's Edge NXT or similar CRM software an asset.
Education & Credentials
- Bachelor's degree in a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- CFRE designation is an asset.

- Strong relationship-building skills with donors, volunteers, and senior leaders.
