Position Title: Indigenous HIPPY Home Visitor
Organization: Kingston Native Centre and Language Nest (KNCLN)
Status: Part-Time hours a week)
Location: KNCLN Office, participant homes, and community-based settings
Compensation: $24.00-$28.00/hour- (based on experience)

The Kingston Native Centre and Language Nest is a Friendship Centre dedicated to supporting Indigenous families and communities through culturally safe programming, language revitalization, and wraparound services rooted in self-determination and community care.
About the Role
The Indigenous HIPPY Home Visitor supports Indigenous families with young children (18 months–5 years) by delivering the Indigenous HIPPY (Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters) program in partnership with Mothers Matter.
This role equips parents and caregivers with early childhood learning tools, models weekly activities from the HIPPY curriculum, and provides culturally safe encouragement to strengthen parent–child relationships and school readiness.
The Home Visitor builds respectful, trusting relationships with families, advocates for their needs, and supports them in connecting with KNCLN programs, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and community resources as appropriate.
What You'll Do
Program Delivery & Family Support
Recruit and enroll Indigenous families into the HIPPY program
- Model HIPPY curriculum and model activities for caregivers
- Support families in creating positive daily routines and readiness for school
- Encourage parents using strengths-based, culturally safe approaches
strong skills to assess risk and safety
Family Advocacy
Advocate for families by connecting them to KNCLN supports or external services as needed (e.g., health, child development, or family programs)
- Respectfully support families navigating challenges, always centering their voices and choices
Encourage participation in cultural programming, ceremonies, and teachings where appropriate
Administration & Recordkeeping
Maintain accurate records of family participation and program progress
- Track curriculum delivery and complete reports as required for KNCLN and Mothers Matter
Ensure all information is kept confidential in line with PHIPA and KNCLN policies
Training & Collaboration
Attend HIPPY and Mothers Matter Canada training sessions and regular KNCLN staff meetings
- Collaborate with other KNCLN program teams to provide wraparound supports
Share family feedback and program insights to strengthen the Indigenous HIPPY program
Other Duties as Assigned
Assist with KNCLN family wellness events and community-based activities
Skills & Strengths

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Patient, compassionate, and adaptable when working with families
- Organized and dependable in managing home visits, paperwork, and schedules
- Able to balance independence with teamwork in a small, supportive environment
- Respectful of confidentiality and professional boundaries
What You Bring
Required:
- Experience supporting families and/or young children (formal or lived experience, such as being a caregiver, will be considered valuable)
- Knowledge of child development and parenting practices
- Current First Aid & CPR (Level C)
- Valid Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening
- Valid G2 or G driver's licence and access to a reliable vehicle
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs
- Understanding of the challenges and strengths of Indigenous families in urban contexts, including the impacts of intergenerational trauma
Preferred:
- Diploma in Early Childhood Education (ECE) with RECE registration, OR a related social services diploma with relevant experience
- Experience in home visiting, outreach, or family support programming
- Familiarity with child development screening tools (e.g., ASQ)
- Experience facilitating family engagement or small group activities
- Familiarity with local Indigenous languages
Work Expectations
Hours: Pat-Time Hours (22.5/week). Occasional evening and weekend work required.
Environment: KNCLN office, schools, and community sites, with occasional home visits
Physical: Light lifting (up to 25 lbs), travel to homes, activity setup
Emotional: Close work with families who may be experiencing challenges; requires empathy, patience, and healthy boundaries
Health & Safety: Must follow KNCLN safety protocols and comply with OHSA, WHMIS, Violence & Harassment, PHIPA, AODA
