Buyer Job Description

MTO Metal Products has an immediate opening for a Buyer. The Buyer will be responsible for completing various reoccurring daily activities in the purchasing department. The successful candidate will get experience working with various production departments, Estimating, Planning, QA and other teams. They will adhere to ISO standards and provide updates and reports regarding material lead times as needed.

Buyer Responsibilities

  • Follow procurement guidelines and policies
  • Create Purchase Orders and send them to vendors
  • Evaluate work orders for items needing purchasing
  • Move work orders along to other departments
  • Ensure timely acquisitions of products and/or services
  • Ensure on-time delivery by following up on purchase orders
  • Proactively communicate any potential issues and interruptions in supply
  • Review and address pricing discrepancies with AP
  • Process month end PO's for consignment and monthly open PO's
  • Generate PO's for reoccurring utilities and services
  • Process quarterly vendor scorecards and send to the vendor
  • Complete assessments as per our ISO procedure's for new vendors
  • Other administrative office task as needed.

Education

  • High School
  • Post-secondary business certificate or diploma related to Purchasing, Accounting or Office Administration would be an asset
  • We are willing to train a candidate who has a positive attitude and drive for learning.

  • Friendly and personable attitude
  • Detail oriented and highly organized
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently
  • Problem solving skills, analytical with the ability to make decisions
  • Ability to work under pressure handling multiple task at once
  • Good time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Excel and Word
  • Sense of ownership for responsibilities and excellent attendance record
  • Good interpersonal skills with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic and often fast-paced environment
  • Some experience with fractional measurements

Additional consideration will be given to candidates for the following desired skills and experiences:

  • Purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Familiar with material and sizes
  • Office administrative experience
  • Knowledge of raw material
  • Technical experience in a manufacturing industry is an asset
  • Understand some basic accounting terminology and principles
  • Familiar with process improvements, six sigma, 5S, Kaizen an asset
  • Ability to think creatively, problem solve by identifying innovative solutions
  • Good negotiation and influencing skills
