This employment opportunity is restricted to residents of Iqaluit only.
Reporting to the Manager, Communications (Manager); the Senior Communications Advisor (Advisor) is the Department's in-house communications expert. As such, they fulfil the critical function of providing strategic and informed expertise / advice on topics that relate to / impact the Department's communication activities. In so doing, the Advisor helps to manage the Department's messaging and profile / image (through its communication materials) to both internal and external audiences by ensuring that the Department's communications align to best practice and legislated and associated requirements
The incumbent will that all matters actioned by the Communications Division are consistent with departmental philosophies, values, and beliefs. In addition, they ensure adherence to the requirements outlined in legislation (e.g.,
Education Act, Inuit Language Protection Act, Official Languages Act
), policies, directives, standards, etc. with relevance to Government of Nunavut and departmental communications. The Advisor supports the Department in the application of its Project Management Process Administrative Directive and participates in Committees (as and when required) that pertain to the activities of the Division and / or the Department as a whole. Additionally, the incumbent ensures that the services and supports they provide reflect / are aligned with Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit principles.
The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a recognized bachelor's degree in the field of Communications, Journalism, Business or Public Administration / Relations, Advertising / Marketing, Creative Writing, plus three (3) years of progressive experience developing internal and external communications, public relations, and/or program delivery / management. Communications experience in a northern environment, government setting and government setting and a master's degree, are considered assets.
The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut's official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land,Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
