We're Hiring 

arc programs is currently accepting applications for a  Child, Youth and Family Mental Health Clinician to join the Family-Based Treatment Program to start early February. 

The Child, Youth and Family Clinician will provide individual and family counselling, as well as skilled intervention and transition services to children or youth with a mental health diagnosis, and their families.

Hours / Schedule:

  • Full-Time, Permanent 
  • Based on 40-hours per week 

Responsibilities:

Using a family-centered approach, the Child, Youth and Family Clinician will develop the capacity of family members to meet the specific needs of children or youth participating in the program by:

  • Providing individual and family counselling, parent education and support, and attachment-informed behaviour management consultation / intervention.
  • Improving family interactions, health and general functioning.
  • Addressing issues contributing to distress.
  • Conducting comprehensive assessments.
  • Collaborating with CYMH clinicians, children, youth, parents / caregivers and other service providers to develop and monitor an individualized treatment plan for each child / youth participating in the program.
  • Providing observations and feedback designed to improve family relationships and resiliency.
  • Applying a variety of specialized treatment modalities relevant to children, youth and their families.
  • Providing crisis consultation.
  • Role modelling appropriate conflict resolution.
  • Facilitating family engagement with natural supports and relevant community services.
  • Evaluating treatment outcomes.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining a basic knowledge of psycho-tropic medications, including an awareness of the effects of such medications.
  • Appling culturally safe and agile, trauma informed, relational and person / family- centered modalities.
  • Maintaining required case management and clinical records.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • A master's degree in a related Social Services or Human Services discipline (MSW, MA in Counselling or MA in Psychology etc.) is 
  • Candidates with a bachelor's degree in a Social Services or Human Services discipline (ie: BSW, BA-Child and Youth Care, BA in Psychology etc.) with a minimum of 2-years relevant experience will be considered.

 

Preferred Types of Related Experience:

  • Experience supporting children / youth with mental health concerns.
  • Family and individual counselling.
  • Experience completing bio-psycho-social assessments.
  • Experience appropriately applying a broad range of clinical interventions

Other Skills and Attributes:

The successful applicant will:

  • Have a strong knowledge of mental health diagnosis (DSM V).
  • Be familiar with child / youth psychological, social and cognitive development.
  • Be skilled at appropriately applying the following treatment modalities to practice:
  • CBT, DBT and other cognitive counselling approaches.
  • Collaborative Proactive Solutions
  • Family Systems Counselling
  • Attachment and trauma-informed care, as applied to mental health.
  • Social, life and coping skills development strategies
  • Suicide assessment, prevention and intervention

Other Requirements

Given the nature of our work, please note that all shortlisted candidates:

  • Need a valid BC Driver's License, regional insurance, and a reliable personal vehicle.
  • Must undergo a screening process, including a criminal record search.

Wage / Benefits:

$ $36.75 per hour, based on relevant experience and education.

Upon successful completion of a trial period, this position is eligible for a full benefit package (including dental plan, vision coverage, life insurance, extended medical coverage, long-term disability plan, and RRSP or TFSA contributions); as well as accrued vacation and sick time at 5.8% - above BC Employment Standards
