We're Hiring 

We are now accepting applications for a for a new Part-Time Temporary Clinician to cover a leave, to support students attending elementary schools within Central Kelowna family of schools.


School-based Mental Health Counsellors will work with children who may have a mental health diagnosis, or who are experiencing mental health challenges that significantly affect their ability to function in the school and home setting.


The School-Based mental Health Counsellor will support children to develop skills to achieve and maintain mental wellness by providing a range of specialized treatment modalities that are developmentally appropriate, and evidence based. Counsellors will work closely with school staff, community services and medical professionals to help children and their families to increase their understanding of the child's mental health issues. 

Hours / Schedule:

  • Part-Time, Temporary 
  • 20 hours per-week

Responsibilities:

The specific responsibilities of the position include:

  • School-based Mental Health Counsellors will work with youth who may have a mental health diagnosis, or who are experiencing mental health challenges that significantly affect their ability to function in the school and home setting
  • Counsellors will support youth to develop the skills necessary to achieve and maintain mental wellness by applying a range of developmentally appropriate, and evidence-based specialized treatment modalities.
  • Counsellors will work closely with school staff, community services and medical professionals to help youth and their families increase their understanding of the youth's mental health issues.

Preferred Education and Experience:

Candidates for this position will possess sufficient training and experience to perform all responsibilities of the job description.

  • Masters-level degree in a relevant discipline (MSW, MA in Counselling or Psychology, etc.) is strongly preferred. 
  • Candidates with a bachelors-level with extensive (i.e.: 3+ years) mental health counselling experience may be considered.

Other Skills and attributes Include:

  • Knowledge and experience in suicide risk assessment, safety planning and treatment is a strong asset, as is clinical experience related to supporting youth experiencing complex mental health issues.
  • 3-years of clinical experience in mental health and/or family support services.
  • (Protective) Family Support services
  • Youth and family counselling
  • Child/youth mental health services
  • Other relevant community-based services

Other Requirements

  • Need a valid BC Driver's License, regional insurance, and a reliable personal vehicle.
  • Must Undergo a screening process, including a criminal record search

Wage / Benefits:

$35.25 – $36.75 hour to start based on relevant experience and education.

Upon successful completion of a probationary period, full-time employees
(minimum 20-hrs per week) are eligible for a full benefit package (including dental plan, vision coverage, life insurance, extended medical coverage, long-term disability plan, and RRSP or TFSA contributions).

New full-time employees are eligible for 3-weeks paid vacation to start, and paid sick days as needed.
