Overview

The primary focus of the HSE Coordinator role will support the railway project design consulting team at the client office and various site locations in the GTHA. This position will support the project teams in ensuring adherence to the AtkinsRéalis and Client HSE management system, company initiatives, industry best practices, and all relevant HSE legislation. In addition, this position will be involved in the wider/complimentary project delivery focused tasks to support our Construction Support Services.

This HSE Coordinator role will report to the Regional HSE Manager. This position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to a leading organization, explore new professional challenges, and deliver outstanding results for our clients.

Your role
  • Provides subject matter expertise, advice, and guidance with respect to relevant HSE matters across the program.
  • Fosters and maintains strong relationships with the Client HSE Leadership.
  • Build collaborative relationships and partnership at all levels within the project teams to influence and prioritize safety.
  • Works collaboratively with the contractor/consultant to confirm that the measures set out in the project-specific safety plan are effectively implemented.
  • Works closely with project operational leadership to coach, guide and mentor on HSE requirements.
  • Conduct regular site inspections to verify compliance with legislation, project procedures and operational requirements. This will include weekends and unsociable hours site visits.
  • Coordinate with contractors to ensure compliance with program safety requirements, including reporting, compliance checks, and Incident Investigation.
  • Conduct thorough incident investigations, including root cause analysis and development of corrective actions.
  • Undertakes periodic assessments / audits across sites and prepares detailed reports with documented findings, identify opportunities for improvement and recommends corrective actions.
  • Support the collection, analysis, and reporting of HSE performance metrics
  • Monitor and track safety performance trends and escalate significant non-compliance to management level for escalation to the appropriate decision makers.
About you
  • Certificate/Diploma or degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Professional certifications such as CRSP, NCSO, or equivalent are considered an asset.
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in an HSE role, preferably within engineering and construction on a linear infrastructure projects.
  • Must have previous construction experience.
  • Specific experience in railway environment is considered an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable HSE legislation (ex. OHSA, CROR, Transport Canada, CSA standards).
  • Experience implementing and maintaining HSE management systems while identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • A self-starter/solution-focused individual with excellent communication, organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent client facing/collaborative skills to align with the Alliance values.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Sharepoint etc.).
  • Flexible schedule (including weekends & unsociable hours) and ability to travel, as required by the project.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites as required.

Expected compensation for this role is (between Pay Range $100,200 - $137,700 annually) (Only Applicable to Ontario). Base salaries are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, and potential impact on the role.
