Training Coordinator

The Training Coordinator will be responsible for identifying training needs and mapping out development plans for the employees of the Metrolinx's Legacy Fleet Maintenance operations.This individual will collaborate with the management team, customers, suppliers, partners and involved stakeholders. Reporting to the Manager People Development and Training, will be responsible for managing, designing, developing, coordinating, and conducting training needs of the business.
ResponsibilitiesCore Accountabilities:
- Act as the primary coordinator and liaison for all training-related initiatives within the Maintenance Operations team, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and compliance with HSE policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with leadership and subject matter experts to design, deliver, and evaluate effective technical and safety training programs, including instructor-led courses, e-learnings, and hands-on modules.
- Conduct comprehensive training needs assessments to identify skills gaps and recommend appropriate training strategies and solutions.
- Lead training logistics, including scheduling, material preparation, and coordination with internal departments and external vendors.
- Monitor, track, and report on training progress, evaluate program effectiveness, and implement improvements based on feedback and performance data utilizing the LMS.
- Maintain training documentation, including accurate records, certification tracking, and mandated timelines using a curriculum database
- Serve as a training subject matter expert (SME) for onboarding and LMS training and provide operational guidance to ensure compliance with best practices.
- Develop and administer knowledge assessments and competency-based testing to validate on-the-job training outcomes.
- Help prepare key performance indicators (KPIs) and training metrics for senior management to assess organizational learning effectiveness.
- Actively support the promotion of a culture centered on safety, equal opportunity, and continuous development.
- Partner closely with department managers, operations, and HR to align training objectives with broader business strategies.
- Advise the Manager of People Development & Training of any emerging issues related to employee development or training delivery.
Qualifications:
- College diploma or university degree in Human Resources, Adult Education, Training & Development, or a related field.
- 3 to 7 years of progressive experience in training coordination, instructional design, or people development—preferably in a rail, transit, or heavy industry environment.
- Proven experience delivering training in a unionized and multi-trade environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage various levels of staff, including frontline personnel and senior leadership.
- High proficiency in MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word); experience with learning management systems (LMS).
- Familiarity with modern training methodologies, including blended learning, competency-based evaluation, and on-the-job training frameworks.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze data, report insights, and recommend training program enhancements.
- Rail industry experience and understanding of rolling stock or mechanical systems is strongly preferred.
