The Opportunity

The Child and Family Programs (CFP), Travelling Casework team within the Ministry of Social Services, is hiring Assistant Supervisors, Child Protection. In this role you will supervise, manage, and implement programs designed to provide protective, preventative, and support services to children, parents, and foster families utilizing the Family Centered Case Management Model and P.R.I.D.E. Model of Practice.

These positions are part of a mobile unit, travelling to the rural communities across Saskatchewan (Nipawin, Prince Albert, Melfort, North Battleford, Lloydminster, Buffalo Narrows, Estevan, Weyburn, Fort Qu'Appelle, Swift Current, Yorkton, Rosetown and/or Meadow Lake).

Extensive travel and overnight stays will be required.

Reporting to the Supervisor, Travelling Casework team you will be responsible to:

  • Coach, mentor, and train staff as expert and role model on your team.
  • Demonstrate leadership exemplified by respect and empowerment, in order to encourage employees to achieve success.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and support to staff in the absence of the supervisor, concerning placements of children and supporting caregivers with children in care.
  • Assist with service delivery between Child and Family division programs, work units, and partner agencies.
  • Be knowledgeable about Ministry policies and procedures, as outlined in the Child and Family Services Act, Family/Children's Services, and PRIDE Manuals.
  • Act as a liaison with First Nations CFS and community agencies, with service delivery and decisions.
  • You may represent your unit or Ministry, on internal and external committees.

The ideal Candidate will have expertise and working knowledge of:

  • Applicable legislation, regulations, programs and policies including child and family services legislation, abuse protocols, and family-centered case management;
  • Relevant government, community services and resources to accurately interpret and ensure compliance with legislative and case practice requirements in order to meet program goals and standards.
  • Core principles and frameworks guiding child and family services, including Structured Decision Making (SDM) tools, Integrated Practice Strategies, and the philosophy and service delivery system of Ministry programs;
  • Multi-cultural beliefs values and perspectives with a particular focus on First Nations and Metis;

The knowledge and experience required to achieve the above is obtained through:

  • A Bachelor of Social Work or Bachelor of Indigenous Social Work degree from an accredited university, approved by the SASW, or CASW/CASWE.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and support teams in a complex service delivery environment.

Work Hours and Travel Requirements

This position will require regular work outside of traditional working hours. Frequent intra-provincial travel will also be required. The incumbent must possess a valid class 5 driver's license.
