ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE
Under the direction of the General Manager, is responsible for the health and wellness of residents in accordance with the philosophy, objectives and standards of Verve Senior Living.

  • Salary: CAD75,000 annually*

*BACKGROUND/QUALIFICATIONS*

  • Has recognized nursing license (LPN licensing) and must be in good standing.
  • Has demonstrated excellent leadership skills (i.e. Diversicare/Verve Senior Living Competencies.
  • Written and verbal fluency in English is required.
  • Must have proficient computer skills (i.e. Word and Excel). Has some experience working within a union setting.
  • Preference given to individuals with 2 or more years of experience working with seniors.
  • A resident-oriented individual, whose visions and values align with those of Diversicare.

*KEY RESPONSIBILITIES*

  • Participates in the Verve Quality Improvement (VQI) program.
  • Completes pre-move-in and ongoing assessments on the health and wellness needs of individual residents and makes recommendations to the appropriate departments/parties/General Manager, as necessary, regarding an individual's suitability for residence and their needs. Stays up-to-date on services provided and works with residents and their families to meet the residents' needs.
  • Ensures the resident's file is established, with proper documentation and safe practices related to medication administration processes.
  • Organizes a plan of care to promote resident independence based on legislation (i.e. RHRA).
  • Updates residents' plan of care every 6 months (or as required).
  • Recruits, interviews and selects new employees. Serves as a leader and helps develop employees to ensure an adequate level of service and job standard are achieved. Conducts annual performance appraisals and addresses performance issues. Oversees and prepares staff scheduling to include shift changes, vacation and leaves of absence.
  • Holds regular department meetings to communicate and update employees as per Verve policies and procedures.
  • Provides input into the preparation of capital and operational budgets. Provides input for variance reports for any negative financial statements.
  • Manages the department finance, including inventory management and purchasing. Reviews and promotes initiatives that help generate revenue.
  • Approves/signs off on invoices.
  • Complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, and Workplace Hazardous Material Information Systems. This includes recognizing health and safety hazards, reporting incidents, fulfilling responsibilities under the applicable legislation, as well as participating in in-services and fire drills. Implements and ensures infection prevention control protocols are being followed.

ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE
The Maintenance Assistant plays a critical role in providing comfort and safety to our residents. Under the direction of the, the Maintenance Assistant is responsible for general building maintenance and preventative maintenance duties, including performing minor repairs, renovations, maintenance of the residence, and coordination with contractors to ensure the building is well maintained. Performs duties in all service areas in a safe and efficient manner with consideration for residents, staff, and family members.

*BACKGROUND/QUALIFICATIONS*

  • Minimum of grade 12 education required.
  • Previous experience in building services with a strong background in HVAC, working with senior clientele is considered an asset.
  • Proven ability to perform janitorial duties, renovations, repairs, minor plumbing/electrical work, and preventive maintenance.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally, in the English language.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, demonstrating initiative, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Intermediate computer skills required.
  • Dependable, responsible, flexible and an ability to work well with others in a team environment and independently. Demonstrates a positive attitude necessary to meet the goals and standards of the residence.
  • A resident-oriented individual, whose visions and values align with those of the residence.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Has demonstrated multi-tasking skills and the ability to work well independently and in a team environment.

*KEY RESPONSIBILITIES*

  • Participates in and adheres to continuous quality improvement standards.
  • Performs repairs and preventative maintenance duties with an acceptable standard of skill and with a sense of responsibility in a timely and friendly manner.
  • Responsible for monitoring all maintenance contracts and warranties in cooperation with and under the supervision of the Building/Environmental Services Manager.
  • Responsible for inspecting resident suites upon resident turnover, and ensuring suites are move-in ready for prospective residents including patching holes, painting, minor carpentry, electrical/plumbing, carpet cleaning, demolition of the suite, etc. and coordinating with contractors if necessary. Maintains suite audits.
  • Assists residents with moving furniture, as required.
  • Ensures that safety procedures are always adhered to while working in the residence.
  • Responds to building emergencies appropriately.
  • Upkeep of exterior building including grounds, common areas and garbage container areas.
  • Performs regular daily and monthly maintenance checks of all equipment and supplies within the residence.
  • Snow removal on all sidewalks, driveway, and ramps of the residence.
  • Responsible for checking and updating maintenance work orders through the applicable database.
  • Keeps work areas and storage rooms neat and orderly.
  • Monitors environmental fire safety conditions, equipment, and alarm systems. Keeps the Building/Environmental Services Manager informed.
  • Changes light bulbs, hangs pictures, performs minor plumbing and electrical work.
  • Maintains effective communication, both written and verbal with co-workers. Uses the appropriate lines of communication with supervisory staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Building/Environmental Services Manager or designate.
  • Assists during fire drills in the residence, as required.
  • Complies with all corporate policies and procedures.
  • Completes all required mandatory training/education.
  • Complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, and Workplace Hazardous Material Information System/Globally Harmonized System. This includes recognizing health and safety hazards, reporting incidents, fulfilling responsibilities under the applicable legislation, as well as participating in in-services and fire drills. Participates in the ongoing Fire Prevention, and Pest Control programs and any other programs as required.
