Sexual Violence Educator

Calgary Communities Against Sexual Abuse (CCASA) is a dynamic agency that focuses on providing sexual violence counselling and education services to Calgary and surrounding areas. The Sexual Violence Educator will be part of a team that offers professional and community sexual violence education and training. CCASA is seeking a Sexual Violence Educator who will be cross-trained to provide all of CCASA's core curriculum, and will work primarily within the Children and Youth and Men and Boys engagement areas to start, in Calgary and area schools. The successful candidate will be flexible and able to adapt to multiple demands while maintaining a vision of serving people who have experienced sexual violence as well as the broader community.

This is a full-time permanent position reporting to the Training, Resource and Education Centre (TREC) Co-Director. As this position entails working in various locations throughout Calgary and surrounding areas, a valid Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle is necessary.

Key Responsibilities of a Sexual Violence Educator:

  • Deliver and facilitate CCASA's "Who Do You Tell?" (child sexual abuse education) Program and Birch Grove youth program, including parent information evenings, teacher in-services, student presentations etc.
  • Deliver CCASA's public education and training workshops.
  • Men and boys engagement, including outreach, relationship building, and facilitation.
  • Respond to disclosures of abuse/assault in a professional, supportive manner, including assessing for risk and reporting to Child and Family Service authorities when required.
  • Work collaboratively with schools and management of those relationships.
  • Provide crisis support, (safety planning and risk assessments) information, advocacy and referrals to children and families.
  • Deliver and facilitate CCASA's sexual violence curricula with an in-depth understanding of all forms of sexual violence and its impacts.
  • Work with the TREC team members to explore and develop new workshops and education content when requested.
  • Once familiar with all TREC presentations, work collaboratively with businesses, community organizations, educational institutions, and community groups.
  • Participate in creative and effective outreach and program development activities.
  • Representing CCASA at community events, and collaborate committees in a positive manner.
  • Work with the Director, Supervisors, colleagues, and community partners to develop sexual violence campaigns and micro-education content.

  • Successful candidates will be required to work some early mornings, evenings and weekends.

The successful applicants will have the following qualifications:

  • A minimum of 3 years' experience in educating, training, or facilitating.
  • Experience working with children, youth, boys and men.
  • Educational background in a related field (Education, Social Work, Human Services, Business) and/or a combination of relevant experience and education.
  • An anti-oppressive/feminist analysis of sexual violence.
  • Strong public speaking, facilitation, and training skills.
  • Comfort working with the business community and other organizations.
  • An understanding and comfort with issues related to sexual violence and sexual harassment.
  • Crisis intervention and assessment skills.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing demands and client group
  • Ability to work autonomously, meet deadlines, and take initiative.
  • Committed to collaboration and creating a healthy work environment.
  • Effective problem-solving, critical thinking and decision-making skills.
  • Strong self-reflection and interpersonal skills.
  • Thrives in a collaborative environment, internally and externally.
