What We Do

Island Basement Systems installs waterproofing and foundation repair systems to primarily residential buildings. Custom designed solutions for our clients means every day is a little different, and we service the entire Island. This position will mostly be focused in the Duncan area, travelling as needed up and down the island as needed. Check out for more info.

Job Responsibilities

We're seeking a Lead Hand / Foundation Repair Technician who can both perform installations and confidently lead a small crew. This role is ideal for an experienced tradesperson who enjoys mentoring others, keeping projects on track, and maintaining high standards of safety and quality.

The role involves the installation, repair, and servicing of waterproofing and foundation systems in residential settings. Responsibilities include hands-on installation of structural repairs, crawlspace liners, injection repair systems, sump systems, drainage solutions (both interior and exterior), and concrete repairs, as well as foundation rehabilitation and framing or structural support repair.

You will need to work in crawl spaces and basements, so you must be comfortable in enclosed spaces and be able to easily maneuver within small spaces. In addition, you will have some experience or natural ability to interact positively with our clients.

  • Lead a team of 1–2 team members: assign tasks, oversee work, and keep projects on schedule.
  • Train and mentor junior crew members while upholding safety and quality standards.
  • Installation of waterproofing systems;, crawlspace liners, foundation repair, injection repair systems, sump systems, interior and exterior drainage, concrete repair, foundation rehab, etc .
  • Teach spray waterproofing, spray foam insulation as part of the repair methodology.
  • Foundation repair: concrete repair, framing repair, post and beam replacement, simple framing, structural support repair.
  • Provide service to existing systems installed in residential homes.
  • Communicate with homeowners and represent the company professionally.
  • Manage site operations, hazard assessments, materials, logistics and cleanup.
  • Assist with diagnosing and design of waterproofing systems
  • Provide customer service and support in regard to waterproofing systems we've installed
  • Haul materials, pour concrete, apply coatings, remove debris, etc.
  • Ensure jobs tasked are completed to company standards

Qualifications Required

  • 4+ years' construction and home repair experience.
  • Previous leadership experience is essential.
  • Experience with spray-applied products, or epoxy & urethane injection is an asset.
  • Ability to work in small areas such as crawlspaces and attics, good construction basics.
  • Able to communicate effectively in English
  • Skilled at working on an iPhone/Mac
  • High level of self-motivation, excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Results-orientated with the ability to work independently
  • Possess time management, scheduling experience, ability to work in a team environment, and problem-solving skills
  • Courteous and customer service oriented with effective communication skills
  • Candidates must be comfortable with the requirement to provide a reasonably clean drivers abstract at the point of the interview as well as a criminal record check at the point of hire.

Travel

This position will be based out of our Duncan warehouse location, and focused on the Duncan to Campbell River service area. Ideally, a candidate located in Nanaimo, BC would be beneficial to reduce travel time. A daily commute to Duncan is NOT required. We provide a company vehicle.

Pay: $30.00-$33.00 per hour
