Avena Foods is actively seeking a Grain Receiving Technician to join our team.  Reporting directly to the Procurement Coordinator, the Grain Receiving Technician is responsible for receiving truck deliveries at the Avena facility.  This individual inspects grain and runs a variety of quality tests to ensure the oats meet specifications, records and communicates the results, prepares information for grain settlements as well as performs related administrative tasks.

Key Responsibilities

1. Collect and organize incoming truck delivery and harvest samples

2. Conducts tests on incoming oats and interpret results against company specifications

3. Record and communicate test results to procurement, operations and quality assurance teams.

4. Maintain expertise in Avena's Purity Protocol and grower approval programs to ensure compliance

5. Maintain related documentation and recommend improvements to those programs

6. Prepare information for grain settlements, ensuring that the payments are made according to correct weight, moisture, etc.

7. Complete required adjustments in the Avena ERP system.

8. Maintain a cleaning work environment that complies with Good Manufacturing Practices and Food Safety System specifications

9. Performs related administrative duties

10. Contributes to farmer relations strategy and events

11. Propose improvements to related business processes

12. Other duties as required

Preferred Qualifications (Education, Experience, Skills & Behaviour)


•   Agricultural background would be considered an asset


•   Willing to be flexible on schedule; ability to meet schedules and deadlines (including overtime as required)


•   Computer literacy


•   Excellent communication skills (email, phone, etc.)


•   Attention to detail and accuracy


•    Ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage time effectively
