Position Summary
The position of Mechanical Technician is responsible for performing precision bolting and torquing operations on industrial flanged connections in various settings such as refineries, chemical plants, power plants, and manufacturing facilities. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical aptitude, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively in diverse and challenging environments.
The position will also involve some aspects of inline inspection tool tracking as a Field Technician. The position of Junior Field Technician is responsible for deploying tool tracking boxes and providing Survey services. They are also responsible for supporting the Operations team to track pipeline pigs during pipeline cleaning and inspection runs.
Reporting:
This position will report to the Central Operations Lead based in Regina, Saskatchewan.
Responsibilities:
Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Bolting Operations:
- Perform controlled and accurate bolt tightening and torquing operations on flanged connections using hydraulic and manual torque tools.
- Ensure adherence to specified torque values, bolt tensioning procedures, and safety protocols.
- Set up and calibrate bolting equipment (hydraulic torque wrenches, tensioners, etc.) prior to use.
- Conduct routine maintenance and inspections of bolting tools and equipment to ensure operational readiness.
- Maintain proper stock of job-specific materials/consumables and ensure job trailer is properly stocked and cleaned while on location
Equipment Setup & Maintenance:
- Follow all safety procedures and guidelines to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment.
- Adhere to industry standards, regulations, and client-specific safety protocols during bolting operations.
Compliance:
- Participate in project planning meetings to understand bolting requirements, timelines, and project scopes.
- Assist in the preparation of work plans, including equipment requirements, manpower needs, and logistical considerations.
Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of bolting activities, including torque values, bolt specifications, and inspection results.
- Generate detailed reports and documentation for each job completed, including any deviations or issues encountered.
Mechanical Process Support:
- Apply knowledge of mechanical principles and processes to ensure efficient and effective bolting operations.
- Troubleshoot mechanical issues related to bolting equipment and provide solutions to maintain project continuity.
Training & Safety:
- Participate in training programs to stay current with industry best practices, new technologies, and safety standards related to bolting operations.
- Ensure training certifications are current and updated as required.
- Attend and participate in Company safety meetings.
- Plan, organize and execute projects with safety as the first priority and demonstrate a strong track record in the safe execution of Company field projects.
- Conduct regular field safety audits.
Survey Support:
- Operate advanced field gear, including GPS data collectors and pipe locating equipment.
- Walk the above-ground pipeline Right-of-Ways (ROW) across all terrains.
- Review/download documents of record. Prepare custom reports, daily project, and safety checklists.
- Operate company or rental vehicles.
- Follow safe work practices, company standards, and customer service protocol.
- Operate ATV's and snowmobiles, as terrain and weather require.
- Basic knowledge of transmitters and receivers.
- Navigating using basic knowledge and operations of GPS equipment.
- Conduct simple calculations and understand the concept of flows.
- Use of Microsoft Office and other software applications.
Job Requirements
This position requires, at a minimum:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Class 5 Driver's License with G Endorsement (or equivalent).
- Experience with hoisting, rigging, and load securement best practices is preferred.
- Experience hauling trailers of various sizes and weights is preferred.
- Experience with NSC requirements, maintenance schedules and logbooks is preferred.
- Ability to lift heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs) and work in physically demanding conditions.
- Willing to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in varying weather conditions.
- Strong knowledge of bolting techniques, torquing methods, and hydraulic tools.
- Ability and willingness to travel away from home for extended periods, up to 3 weeks at a time.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues related to bolted connections.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Commitment to safety, quality, and adherence to project schedules.
Hours & Working Conditions
This position will be primarily field based, however, may be required to perform work out of the warehouse/office located in Regina, Saskatchewan. During the field execution of projects working hours may include evenings, nights and weekends. Individuals are expected to manage personal schedules around field projects when needed or provide contact persons during periods they may be unavailable.
This position is renumerated hourly. Compensation will be re-evaluated after an initial 90-day probationary period.
