Overview**

The Information Technology (IT) team ensures that the organization has the appropriate resources to deliver consistent, reliable, and secure services, while understanding and anticipating its unique technology requirements.

Role: Enterprise Data Architect
Reporting to the Manager, Data Management, the Enterprise Data Architect will play a key role in shaping and executing the data strategy, ensuring the organization's data infrastructure is robust, scalable, and aligned with strategic objectives. This newly created position will oversee data architecture across the enterprise, defining reference architectures, standards, and data models to be used for collecting, organizing, storing, and accessing data. The role also involves proactively identifying emerging opportunities and issues, providing recommendations to deliver effective, efficient, and innovative functional solutions tailored to organizational needs.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with IT and departmental management to implement data strategy, ensuring alignment with organizational strategic goals.
  • Define and maintain the enterprise data reference architecture, target state, and roadmaps.
  • Publish architecture decision records and reusable patterns for data platforms (catalogue, lineage, lakehouse, warehouse, MDM, etc.). Maintain comprehensive documentation of the data architecture and environment to ensure an accurate overview of the organization's data landscape.
  • Establish and lead data architecture governance, aligning initiatives to standards and ensuring traceability to strategy, risk, and compliance requirements.
  • Design, develop, and maintain enterprise and domain data models to support business needs, ensuring data quality, accessibility, and scalability across systems.
  • Guide information architecture for key domains.
  • Define patterns for data integration and data/information life-cycle; provide guidance to data engineers and developers.
  • Partner with security and privacy analysts to embed privacy-by-design, data protection, and access controls.
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders, vendors, and service providers to evaluate data frameworks, platforms, and tools; lead RFP/vendor reviews and ensure solutions align with strategic and operational goals.
  • Participate in defining, implementing, and managing enterprise data management and governance policies and standards to guide the development, integration, implementation, and maintenance of data infrastructures and systems.
  • Regularly report on data quality and develop KPIs with recommendations for improvement.
  • Establish processes and implement metadata management frameworks and tools to catalogue, organize, and govern data and information assets, ensuring metadata accuracy and validity.
  • Develop technical perspectives on emerging technologies and trends, creating proofs of concept to demonstrate the feasibility and value of new data solutions and approaches.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in enterprise data architecture, data management, or related roles.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise data modeling, data governance, and metadata management.
  • Experience designing and implementing scalable, secure, and accessible data solutions.
  • Ability to lead data architecture governance and align initiatives with strategic and compliance requirements.
  • Experience with modern data platforms, including data lakes, warehouses, catalogues, MDM systems, and cloud-based data services.
  • Knowledge of privacy, security, and compliance requirements for data systems.
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to evaluate emerging technologies, lead proofs of concept, and recommend innovative data solutions.
