Our client, a leader in the construction industry, is seeking an experienced Accountant to manage full-cycle accounts payable, payroll administration, and related financial tasks. The ideal candidate brings strong industry experience, excellent attention to detail, and proficiency with construction-based accounting systems.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts Payable
- Manage full-cycle accounts payable, including high-volume invoice processing, coding, and timely payment.
- Reconcile vendor statements, support month-end closing activities, and prepare financial reports.
- Communicate with vendors to resolve discrepancies and maintain positive relationships.
- Enter and maintain accurate financial data using QuickBooks Contractor Edition; organize records for audit readiness.
- Allocate expenses across multiple ongoing construction projects for accurate job costing.
- Work with WCB, including pulling and verifying Clearance Certificates.
- Assist with year-end schedules and GST audits.
- Identify and recommend improvements to AP systems and workflow efficiency.
Payroll Administration
- Process bi-weekly payroll, including new hires, terminations, and employee changes.
- Calculate special adjustments (vacation, bonuses, etc.) and ensure accurate pay/deduction processing.
- Maintain up-to-date employee payroll records and respond to payroll-related inquiries.
Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of accounting experience within the construction industry.
- Education: Post-secondary certificate or diploma in accounting or business (asset) and/or on CPA track.
- Technical Skills: Strong proficiency with QuickBooks, preferably the construction edition.
- Soft Skills: Exceptional attention to detail, strong communication skills, and high discretion with sensitive information.
- Knowledge: Solid understanding of Canadian payroll legislation, GST/tax regulations, and internal control practices.
