Junior Infrastructure Analyst

The Junior Infrastructure Analyst supports day‑to‑day operations of on‑premises and cloud infrastructure in a complex, safety‑critical oil & gas environment. You'll help install, configure, monitor, and secure Windows and Unix/Linux servers (physical and virtual), assist with patching and capacity management, respond to Tier 2/3 incidents, and contribute to our Azure migration. You'll also work within established change, security, and compliance processes, including weekly CAB.

What you'll do (Key Responsibilities)

Core Infrastructure Operations

• Install, configure, and maintain Microsoft Windows Server environments (physical/virtual).
• Install, configure, and maintain Unix/Linux/Solaris environments (physical/virtual).
• Perform capacity management: monitor performance, utilization, and growth; recommend scaling actions.
• Execute patch management: OS updates, hotfixes, firmware upgrades; coordinate maintenance windows.
• Administer Active Directory/Entra ID: create/modify/remove user and service accounts; maintain RBAC and directory security models.
• Manage Group Policy Objects (GPOs): propose, test, implement, and document GPO changes.
• Ensure high availability/uptime for critical systems and participate in service restorations.

Support & Incident Response

• Provide Tier 2/Tier 3 technical support for server/platform issues.
• Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and connectivity problems; coordinate vendor RMAs and warranty claims.

Security & Compliance

• Implement and enforce security policies and access controls; support hardening standards.
• Support vulnerability remediation and audit/attestation evidence collection.

Monitoring, Reporting & Documentation

• Configure and maintain monitoring tools for performance, availability, and security.
• Generate and review server health and uptime reports; provide monthly/quarterly performance and maintenance summaries.
• Maintain runbooks, configuration records, inventory, and network diagrams.

Platforms & Special Environments

• Configure and manage Citrix environments (user access, app delivery, basic troubleshooting).
• Assist with HPC (High Performance Compute) environment operations (queues/schedulers, node health, job monitoring) as directed.
• Storage management: monitor performance and capacity (SAN/NAS/object), support data integrity, access, and backup/restore workflows.

Change & Lifecycle

• Participate in weekly CAB (Change Advisory Board); ensure changes are risk‑assessed, communicated, and aligned with site requirements.
• Follow software lifecycle management practices (build, promote, retire); track assets and versions.
• Contribute to Azure migration planning and execution (landing zone guardrails, identity, policy, VM moves/app cutovers).
• Adhere to formal Change Management procedures and maintain change records.

Qualifications

Education

• Diploma or degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).

Experience

• 1–3 years in systems administration or infrastructure support (internships/co‑ops count).
• Exposure to enterprise Windows Server and at least one Linux distribution.
• Hands‑on with Active Directory/GPO, PowerShell or Bash, and virtualization (VMware or Hyper‑V).
• Familiarity with Azure fundamentals (IaaS, identities, policy, basic migration concepts).
• Experience with monitoring (e.g., SCOM, Zabbix, Prometheus, Nagios) and ticketing/ITSM workflows.

Skills & Knowledge

• Understanding of capacity, performance, patching, and backup fundamentals.
• Basic networking (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, load balancing concepts).
• Security hygiene: least privilege, patch cadence, baseline hardening, logging.
• Clear, professional communication and a structured, documentation‑first mindset.
• Ability to triage incidents under time pressure and escalate effectively.
