About the Role

Martell Mechanical is a fast-growing plumbing, HVAC, and mechanical contractor serving commercial, residential, and multi-unit projects across Nova Scotia. We're hiring a Mechanical Estimator who loves precision, thrives on deadlines, and wants to see their estimates turn into successful, well-run projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate, detailed estimates for plumbing, HVAC, and mechanical scopes (commercial, residential, multi-unit)
  • Review drawings, specs, and addenda to define scope, materials, and inclusions/exclusions
  • Perform quantitative take-offs and costing using digital estimating tools and internal templates
  • Solicit, evaluate, and coordinate supplier and subcontractor pricing
  • Collaborate with Project Managers to align budgets and scopes with field execution
  • Participate in bid reviews, tender/RFP submissions, and project hand-offs
  • Support value engineering, change orders, and cost tracking during live projects
  • Maintain and update cost databases to keep pricing current and competitive

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of mechanical estimating experience (plumbing/HVAC contractor background preferred)
  • Strong understanding of mechanical drawings, codes, and construction documents
  • Proficient with take-off/estimating software and spreadsheets (e.g., Bluebeam, PlanSwift, Simpro, or equivalent)
  • Excellent communication skills with suppliers, clients, and field teams
  • Highly organized, analytical, and detail-oriented; able to meet deadlines
  • Familiarity with Nova Scotia building codes, tender portals, and procurement processes
  • Education: diploma/degree in mechanical engineering, construction management, or Red Seal trade background (asset, not required)
