Special Education Assistant

Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, with the direction of the teacher and Site Manager, to plan and implement developmentally appropriate, play-based programs for preschool-aged children in the classroom. Utilize Flight – Alberta's Early Learning and Care Framework, Strength-Based Approach, and Sustainable Livelihood model as key frameworks throughout your work.
Key Responsibilities:
Classroom Support
Work within the multi-disciplinary team planning and implementation of developmentally appropriate, play-based programming for preschool aged children in the classroom, and participate in case management planning.Engage in ongoing interaction with children with complex needs during classroom activities on an individual, small group and large group basis.Monitor equipment and room to ensure that safety protocols are being followed for optimum protection of children. Play a crucial role in classroom function and positive behavior guidanceProgram Planning
- Participate in Family Centered, Child Focused case meetings that concentrate on the children's total development.
- Work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary team to implement play experiences that align with children's IPP goals.
- Debrief and follow-up to critical incidents and/or crisis situations in conjunction with site manager.
Administrative
Maintain records and reports to meet program standards (i.e. attendance, disclosures, incident reports, cleaning sheets).Participate in program related assessments, provide feedback for evaluations and reports to effectively deliver and evaluate the program.What you bring to the team:
1+ years' experience working with children with developmental delays i.e. cognitive disabilities, speech and language delays, behavioral concerns etc.Strong knowledge and experience using the FLIGHT Framework and a learning through play approach.Experience in multi-disciplinary team settings is an asset.Diploma or degree in Early Childhood Education, Special Education Assistant, Disability Studies, or related field.Salary and Benefits
