What you'll be doing
Reporting to the Senior Director, Governance & Business Effectiveness, you will lead the execution of 1B activities for Risk Management, which may include control testing, deficiency validation, control and deficiency advisory, operational risk program support, control environment reporting and other governance support activities. You will manage a team responsible for assessment the design and operating effectiveness of controls for assigned Business Units, and oversee the identification, tracking and monitoring of deficiencies to ensure they are resolved in a timely and effective manner. You will also ensure robust documentation, updates, and ongoing maintenance of the control management process and control descriptions in alignment with the Control Management Policy and related standards.

How you'll succeed
- Act as a Subject Matter Expert -You and your team will review and provide feedback on existing process and procedural documentation to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Provide Strategic Advice - You will lead the team in: providing guidance on the documentation and design of an effective internal control structure in accordance with current governance, risk and compliance requirements, including Financial Process Control, Regulatory Compliance Management Control and Operational Process Control streams as per CIBC methodology; and managing, and monitoring various processes, including control framework activities, Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA), Change Initiative Risk Assessment (CIRA), assertions, and governance activities such as inter-company services documentation and reporting, Business Managed Technology (BMT) support, and Privacy SPOC.
- Build Key Relationships - You will liaise with Risk Partners, where appropriate, on the design of key controls, to ensure they mitigate high inherent risks. You will be responsible for handling inquiries, clarifications and interpretations from GORM, Internal Audit and External Regulators.
- Strong Leadership - You and your team will act as a business partner, providing effective and value-added governance and control support to business functions within Global Risk Management and to ensure an effective and efficient control environment.
- Creative thinking – You will think differently, see opportunities where challenges and efficiency opportunities appear to exist, and propose and implement creative solutions.
- Project management – You will provide rigor and structure around the scheduling and organizing of the workflow. You are confident to work independently, plan effectively and lead initiatives to completion.
Who you are
- You can demonstrate 7+ years of experience in control testing in Risk Management, Governance & Controls, Business Effectiveness or Audit. It is an asset if you understand CIBC's control and deficiency management framework and requirements.
