We're seeking a Manager, Deal Development to join our Opportunity Calgary Investment Fund (OCIF) team to help us tell Calgary's story as a great place to make a living and make a life.
Job Summary
The Manager, Deal Development is responsible for leading, analyzing and co-developing opportunities that support the Opportunity Calgary Investment Fund's (OCIF) strategic direction.
This is a results-driven position that leads the rigorous evaluation and advancement of potential OCIF projects from intake through agreement execution, ensuring disciplined analysis, practical structuring, and high‑quality materials for leadership and the Board of Directors. The role collaborates closely with the Portfolio Development Team to strategically shape projects for the highest probability of success, ensuring opportunities are well-positioned to advance through the OCIF pipeline.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the evaluation of submissions in a fair and neutral manner.
- Conduct research and analysis in the evaluation of submissions.
- Develop clear and succinct recommendations for file progression based on applicant eligibility.
- Conduct due diligence review of business proposals, including financial analysis, and lead the development of related board materials.
- Document files and activities for each stage of the OCIF process in the CRM and project management platforms.
- Lead due diligence including financial analysis, company sustainability, project risks and metrics (collecting management information, financial data, competitor analysis, etc.)
- Conduct due diligence and draft terms and conditions for term sheets and contribution agreements for review and approval.
- Lead or participate in contract negotiations.
- Liaison between legal counsel and applicants/potential beneficiaries.
- Work with the Senior Portfolio Manager, Deal Development to manage and delegate tasks to the Deal Development Team.
- Manage direct report(s) and ensure the team member(s) understand role expectations.
- Appraise individual and team performance; continually assessing for quality and output levels and determining future resourcing needs.
Strategies and Processes
- Update strategy and program materials and supports development of materials including reporting to board and City Administration and Council.
- Lead research, data collection, and analysis to identify funding gaps and ecosystem needs; translate insights into clear, data‑driven recommendations
- Work with external organizations to identify market gaps and partnership opportunities.
- Contribute to development of financial frameworks and processes that support potential OCIF projects.
- Identify and recommend process improvements and support the development of templates and materials
- Responsible for the documentation of assigned files for each stage of the OCIF process.

Education
Undergraduate degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
Experience
Minimum of 5 years experience in a similar role.
Key Skills and Competencies
- Proven client service orientation with the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with internal client and key stakeholders.
- Knowledge of economic indicators and measures of local and regional economic performance and competitiveness.
- Quality assurance (Analytical and methodical)
- Ability to understand legal agreements.
- Ability to monitor key financial indicators and identify trends / develop strategies to improve financial position.
- Experience with government funding or venture capital programs is an asset
- Developed communication and project management skills.
- Demonstrated strength in report writing/ presentations/communication skills.
- Negotiation skills

- Computer skills:
- Proficiency with PowerPoint, Excel and Word
- Experience with CRM and Project Management software
- MS office 365
- Experienced in AI-driven data analysis
- Familiarity with market data platforms such as Pitchbook, Crunchbase, and CB Insights.
