The Team

The Mackenzie Forest District Engineering Team is a small, established unit dedicated to maintaining safe road access for four remote communities in northern B.C. This two-person team works independently and collaboratively, engaging with First Nations, forest licensees, and industry partners to deliver practical, inclusive solutions within budget. Their work directly supports community connectivity and resource access, making a meaningful impact through thoughtful infrastructure stewardship.

The Role

This Engineering Program Specialist role is all about maintaining safe, reliable Forest Service Roads and infrastructure across one of B.C.'s largest Timber Supply Areas. Your work will directly support access to four remote communities, making a real difference in people's lives. Based in the welcoming town of Mackenzie, this position offers a unique blend of technical challenge, outdoor adventure, and meaningful engagement with First Nations and industry partners—perfect for those who value inclusion, exploration, and impact.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Master's degree in forest technology or a related field (i.e., chemical, metallurgical, forest engineering, survey geomatics, geoscience) as recognized by the Association of BC Forest Professionals and 1 year of related experience, or
  • Bachelor's degree in forest technology or a related field (i.e., chemical, metallurgical, forest engineering, survey geomatics, geoscience) as recognized by the Association of BC Forest Professionals and 2 years of related experience, or
  • Diploma in forest technology or a related field (i.e., chemical, metallurgical, forest engineering, survey geomatics, geoscience) as recognized by the Association of BC Forest Professionals and 3 years related experience, or
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Related Experience may include

  • Experience related to work unit or program area. 
  • Experience in contract and/or project supervision.

Professional Registration and Certification Requirements

  • Registered, or immediately eligible for registration (within six months of employment), with the Forest Professionals British Columbia (FPBC) as an Registered Forest Technologist (RFT).  Confirmation of registration/eligibility will be required before an offer of employment can be made.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to apply standards, policy and/or legislation.
  • Contract and project management skills.

Other Requirements

  • Experience supervising staff.
  • Valid B.C. driver's licence.
  • Meet safety standards of Work Safe BC.
  • Ability to operate a variety of equipment.
  • Ability to conduct field work which may include travel and outdoor work in all weather conditions.

About this Position:

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work 1 or more days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.

An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.

Depending on the successful candidate's location, a bi-weekly isolation allowance may apply.

A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required.
