*Hiring due to Business Expansion - Back of House*

We would like to welcome a Back of House cook who is looking for more than a line position. This role will have a unique opportunity to work across two Japanese kitchens, Menya Kyu and Sakana.

About Menya Kyu and Sakana:

Menya Kyu is a traditional Japanese ramen restaurant that focuses on craftsmanship, seasonality, and locally sourced ingredients.

Sakana is a non-takeout, non-AYCE Japanese sushi restaurant, offering an elegant dining experience centred on technique, trust, and thoughtful hospitality. Sakana is also the only restaurant in town hosting omakase events.

Both are independently owned and operated by Japanese, the only ones of their kind in town.

What you will learn:

  • Proper preparation of Japanese dishes rooted in tradition
  • Professional kitchen discipline and workflow
  • Techniques taught by classically trained Japanese chefs
  • Hands-on mentorship from a chef recognised as the Best Local Chef (Readers' Choice Awards Diamond Winner 2025)
  • Cross-training between ramen, hot foods and sushi
