Build a strong city With more than a hundred diverse facilities to support, the City of Kelowna is seeking a dedicated, self‑motivated HVAC Technician to help maintain our growing infrastructure. In this hands‑on role, you'll apply your Refrigeration Mechanic and Gasfitter (Class B) certifications along with your technical expertise to install, maintain, repair, and optimize HVAC and mechanical systems across a wide range of municipal buildings.
You'll play a key part in ensuring safe, efficient operations by contributing to preventative maintenance programs and supporting capital renewal projects that enhance the long‑term sustainability of our facilities. An HVAC Technician diagnoses, designs, installs, maintains and repairs heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.
Duties - Union
- Recommends proper HVAC design; ensures quality standards are met and accurate documentation is maintained on all building systems.
- Investigates building comfort complaints; instructs clients on ways to improve comfort level.
- Work with clients and consultants to increase energy efficiency and reduce GHG consumption.
- Operates, monitors and troubleshoots building automation control systems.
- Designs and implements a preventive maintenance program in conjunction with the Asset Management Program.
- Plans and performs preventative maintenance on building mechanical systems including parts sourcing and replacement, lubrication, cleaning, inspection, adjustment, etc.
- Coordinates preventative maintenance schedules and activities including inspecting and oversees the work of contractors.
- Prepares cost estimates and purchase requisitions; provides input on annual budget development, recommends the priority of equipment to be replaced.
- Takes various industry specific training to learn latest technologies.
- Responds to emergency calls.

This is a CUPE bargaining unit position with an hourly rate of $45.69 per hour (based on a 40-hour work week) plus
- employer-paid comprehensive benefits,
- an earned day off program,
- paid vacation,
- relocation assistance and
- one of Canada's top pension plans.
This position also has the option of participating in the department's employee standby pool.
Testing may be required. If no fully qualified candidates apply, those not fully qualified may be considered for a training opportunity. Training rates will apply.
Positions that become vacant within the same classification may be filled as a result of this posting if the vacancy occurs within 30 days of closing.
