Our client, Waycon, is a Canadian manufacturer specializing in custom industrial equipment. As a full-service facility they manage every stage from design to execution of heavy custom metal fabrication projects. Their diverse portfolio includes prototype development, contract manufacturing, and specialized machinery production. They are dedicated to delivering high-quality, engineered-to-order industrial solutions. Currently, they are looking for a highly experienced Manufacturing Estimator to join their team and play a vital role in their project evaluation and bidding processes.
In the role of Manufacturing Estimator, you will be responsible for accurately assessing project costs and utilizing our competitive advantages throughout the bidding process. This client-facing position requires a detail-oriented professional with a strong technical background in industrial manufacturing, machining, and fabrication.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare precise and competitive estimates for custom metal fabrication projects;
- Analyze engineering drawings, specifications, and RFQs to generate detailed cost breakdowns;
- Collaborate with engineering, production, and procurement teams to validate material, labor, equipment, and subcontractor requirements;
- Evaluate project risks and offer value engineering and cost-saving recommendations;
- Update and maintain cost databases and historical cost libraries;
- Act as the primary client representative for estimating, technical discussions, and project scoping;
- Develop and strengthen relationships with industry partners across various sectors;
- Meet with clients to review concepts, clarify requirements, and provide expert guidance on technical feasibility and manufacturing options;
- Prepare proposals, quotations, and supporting documentation clearly outlining project scope, pricing, and deliverables;
- Work cross-functionally to ensure estimates align with manufacturing capabilities, capacity, and timelines.
Requirements
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, or a related field;
- Minimum of 7 years of estimating experience in machining, fabrication, heavy industrial manufacturing, mechanical engineering environments;
- Strong understanding of machining tolerances, fabrication standards, welding processes, mechanical systems, and industrial equipment;
- Proven ability to estimate complex, engineered, or custom industrial projects;
- Established network and relationships within industrial sectors;
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to present technical information clearly and confidently;
- Experience with multidisciplinary project scopes (mechanical, structural, process).
