Position Summary

This position is responsible for providing leadership and coordination for projects and services related to their area. The Coordinator is responsible for the planning and development, oversight and direction, training and implementation of ongoing projects and services. The Coordinator is a member of the faculty librarian team and works in collaboration and cooperation with them in the approval and implementation of project proposals/charters, policy initiatives and planning priorities. The position reports to the Director, Library and Learning Centre. The Coordinator will spend approximately 50 percent of time in the Coordinator's role, and the other 50 percent as a Public Services Librarian, with duties outlined in that job description. This position is a faculty position and is therefore covered by the Collective Agreement between the College and the Vancouver Community College Faculty Association. The position shall be evaluated during the incumbent's probationary year and the incumbent shall have a Performance Appraisal conducted thereafter in accordance with procedures set under the Collective Agreement. The specific responsibilities listed below are not intended to be a complete and definitive listing. The incumbent is expected to use their discretion and initiative to deal with situations as they arise and to assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Duties & Responsibilities

A. PLANNINGANDDEVELOPMENT

1. Leads the planning and development of projects and services related to the area. Identifies key priorities and current/future trends, and proposes projects to the faculty librarian team. In partnership with the faculty librarian team, makes recommendations on project priorities to the Director, Library and Learning Centre for approval.

  1. Ensures that projects support the educational goals articulated in the College's Strategic Plan, Academic Plan, and any other planning documents.

  2. Plans and develops services in accordance with library and industry standards.

  3. Participates in ongoing review of services.

  4. Collaborates with the Department Head, Library Public Services to advise and assist the Director, Library and Learning Centre in departmental budgeting.

  5. Provides leadership in the changing library environment by advancing new information technologies and library service standards.

B. LIBRARYPROJECTMANAGEMENTANDADMINISTRATION

1. Coordinates and provides leadership for projects and services related to the area. Collaborates with coordinators and others on shared projects.

  1. Communicates significant developments in projects to the faculty librarian team. When developments require a change in overall direction/prioritization in a project, brings a recommendation to the faculty librarian team for decision.

  2. Trains and provides direction to library staff assigned to projects and services. Communicates any concerns related to performance of duties to the library staff person's supervisor.

  3. Prepare, submit and monitor budget and expenditures related to projects.

  4. Collaborates with relevant coordinators, supervisors and staff to ensure backup and coverage during absences.

  5. Writes and revises job duties and responsibilities as needed.

  6. Oversees development and maintenance of guidelines and written procedures. Works closely with relevant coordinators, supervisors and staff to ensure workflow processes are efficient, relevant and documented.

  7. Promotes effective communication between all Library and Learning Centre personnel.

  8. Provides updates to the Library Management Group as needed.

  9. Attends to public services responsibilities.

C. PROFESSIONALRESPONSIBILITIES

1. Builds strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

2. Advises library faculty and staff on current and future trends.

3. Maintains currency through monitoring of professional literature, attendance at workshops and conferences, and participation in relevant communities.

4. Supported by the College, takes training required for emerging work.

5. Through mentoring, enhances the expertise of library employees with the goal of providing excellent services.

6. Acts as backup to another Coordinator or Department Head within Library Public Services to provide seamless coverage of services and a shared base of knowledge.

Area Hiring Criteria

Education and Experience

  • Completion of a Master's Degree in Library and Information Sciences from an accredited school of Library and Information Science or an approved (ALA/CLA) equivalent.
  • 2 years of recent professional public service experience in a college, institute, or university library or related library setting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in coordination of library services in a college environment.
  • Completion of supervisory skills course is desirable.
  • At least 2 year of recent specialized experience, knowledge, and course work in library public services.
  • Ability to adapt to change.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

Salary Range - Prorated based on FTE

$ $85.65/hour. Staring salary will be determined by education, experience and placement criteria as outlined in the VCCFA Collective Agreement. IRA Positions are subject to allowance as outlined in the VCCFA Agreement
