Position Summary:

The Janitor is responsible for providing cleaning services at Sandy Bay Child & Family Services Inc. (SBCFS) main office(s). The incumbent will ensure a clean, safe, and sanitary environment during regular working hours, with occasional after-hours cleaning as required.

Some Duties include:

  • Daily cleaning: empty garbage, dust, sweep, mop, vacuum, sanitize washrooms, and restock supplies.
  • Wash dishes, wipe down high-touch surfaces, and keep common areas tidy.
  • Refill water jugs for each trailer as needed.
  • Clean and sanitize washrooms, clean toilet bowls, refill toilet paper, soap, paper towel, and sanitizer.
  • Clean mirrors and glass surfaces.
  • Replace light bulbs as required.
  • Promptly report any equipment failure, damage, or vandalism to the Director of Operations.
  • Look for signs of pests, especially in areas like furniture seams and upholstery, and report any findings to the Director of Operations immediately.
  • Stock janitorial supplies; accordingly, and reorder as needed.
  • Advise Maintenance when water & septic tanks need filling/emptying.
  • Accurately completes task completion list for each office building.
  • Deep clean two (2) times a year. (Spring and Fall)
  • Work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Must always maintain confidentiality of agency business.
  • Must always follow safety standards and agency policies.
  • Use computers, email, and online systems when required for work tasks.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Grade 10 education minimum (Grade 12 preferred).
  • At least 1 year of cleaning/janitorial experience.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently.
  • Physically able to lift up to 25 lbs and perform cleaning tasks.
  • Must possess a Valid Manitoba Driver's License and access to a vehicle.
  • Ability to provide: Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Search, and Child Abuse Registry Check.
  • Knowledge of First Nations culture and/or Ojibway language is an asset.
  • Ability to speak and/or understand the Ojibway language is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge and respect for First Nations culture, traditions, and philosophy.
