Short-Haul Driver (One-Night-Out Trips)

Job Overview

Exellar Transportation is seeking a dependable and experienced Short-Haul Truck Driver to operate commercial vehicles on regional routes. This role involves transporting freight safely and efficiently on short-haul trips that typically include one night out. The ideal candidate will have strong regional/East Coast driving experience, proficiency in freight handling, and the ability to operate heavy equipment when required. Responsibilities

  • Safely operate commercial trucks on regional short-haul routes, ensuring timely and accurate freight delivery.
  • Complete thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Load and unload freight using forklifts or other heavy equipment when required, ensuring proper cargo securement.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of deliveries, routes, and vehicle logs as per company and regulatory standards.
  • Communicate professionally with dispatchers, warehouse staff, and customers regarding schedules or delivery updates.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting or minor repairs to maintain vehicle functionality during trips.
  • Adhere to all federal, state, provincial, and local transportation laws and safety regulations.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of commercial driving experience, preferably on East Coast or regional short-haul routes.
  • Proven track record of safe driving with a clean driving record.
  • Experience in freight handling and knowledge of safety protocols.
  • Forklift or heavy equipment operation skills are an asset (training may be provided).
  • Basic mechanical troubleshooting knowledge is an advantage.
  • Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL or appropriate Canadian class) required.
  • Minimum age: 25 years old.

Compensation & Work Details

  • Payment Frequency: Biweekly
  • Trip Type: Short-haul with one night out
  • Trips: Approximately 3 trips per week
  • Weekly Mileage: Around 3,500 miles (combined short-haul cycles)
  • Primary Lanes / Route Areas:
  • Regional East Coast including Pennsylvania, New York, and North Carolina
