Richmond School District operates 38 elementary schools, 10 secondary schools, alternate programs, continuing education and a number of additional facilities. The district enrolls approximately 21,000 students (K-12) and employs over 3000 dedicated staff.

School District No. 38 (Richmond) is seeking a dedicated Disability and Return to Work Co-ordinator to support the well-being and success of our valued employees.

Major Duties And Responsibilities
WorkSafe BC Claims Management

  • Coordinate and manage WorkSafe BC claims from initial reporting through resolution, including review division and WCAT proceedings.
  • Promote an understanding of WorkSafe BC claims policy and manage processes that support cost efficiency in claims and injury management to district leadership and managers.
  • Provide proactive advice and decision making relating to claims management.
  • Liaise with WorkSafe BC representatives, health care providers, and internal partner groups.
  • Ensure timely documentation of all claims processes and reporting deadlines.
  • Adhere to WorkSafe requirements, regulations, and legislation.

Non-Occupational Health Related Leave Management

  • Oversight of all non-occupational health related leaves.
  • Refer employees to appropriate resources as required.
  • Administer short term disability, long term disability, and unpaid health related leaves.
  • Liaise with appropriate internal and external partner groups.

Return to Work

  • Administer employee return to work plans from occupational and non-occupational leaves.
  • Monitor claims progress and coordinate STW (Stay at Work), RTW (Return to Work) and GRTW (Gradual Return to Work) plans.
  • Participate in job site visits.
  • Liaise with internal and external partners as required.

General Responsibilities

  • Support and communicate all necessary information to employees throughout their health-related leaves.
  • Ensure compliance with CUPE and RTA Collective Agreements, internal policies, procedures, and legislation.
  • Provide reports and statistics as required.
  • Develop procedures and processes as necessary.
  • Identify and implement solutions for cost efficiencies.
  • Collaborate with HR colleagues to resolve Duty to Accommodate requests.
  • Maintain accurate records and reporting for payroll purposes.
  • Conduct accident and incident investigations, and worksite visits.
  • identify workplace hazards and corrective actions.
  • Develop, facilitate, and track safety training programs/courses for staff on various disability and return to work topics.
  • Exercise discretion in decision making and maintain confidentiality at all times.

Required Qualifications

  • A Diploma/Certificate in Disability Management, Vocational Rehabilitation, or Human Resources.
  • Advanced knowledge of WorkSafe BC OH&S Regulations, Legislation, disability management best practices, and any other requirements pertaining to health, safety and wellness.
  • A successful track record in developing, implementing, and coordinating leave management programs.
  • Experience with refusals of unsafe work.
  • Proven ability to establish and engage in collaborative relationships and communication with all levels of an organization and with external agencies.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills including excellent public speaking, presentation, and training skills.
  • Proficiency in standard office applications and ability to adapt to other specialized software applications as required.
  • Certified Disability Management Professional designation, Certified Return to Work Coordinator or a certificate in Occupational Health and Safety is an asset.
  • Experience in ergonomic assessment is an asset.
  • Experience in a complex multi-union environment is an asset.
