Role Description

We are seeking experienced
Business Architects
to lead the strategic alignment, initiation, and governance of complex enterprise programs and projects. This role is pivotal in shaping business capabilities, defining end‑to‑end processes, and ensuring that technology investments deliver measurable business value. You will collaborate closely with business leaders, functional teams, enterprise architects, project managers, and delivery teams to translate strategy into actionable roadmaps and govern execution across the portfolio.

  • This is a contract, hybrid role for a Business Architect, based in Toronto, Ontario with a blend of in-office and remote work.
  • This position plays a critical role in advancing our digital transformation by ensuring that initiatives are well‑defined, strategically aligned, and executed with strong architectural oversight and governance discipline.

Key Responsibilities

Project Initiation & Business Architecture Definition

  • Lead the development of business architecture deliverables including capability maps, value streams, process models, and business requirements.
  • Facilitate project initiation activities such as business case development, scope definition, stakeholder alignment, and readiness assessments.
  • Translate strategic objectives into actionable project charters, high‑level solution outlines, and prioritized capability roadmaps.
  • Assess business impacts, dependencies, risks, and organizational readiness for new initiatives.

Project Engagement & Stakeholder Alignment

  • Serve as the primary business architecture liaison across business units, IT, PMO, and executive sponsors.
  • Conduct workshops, interviews, and discovery sessions to understand business needs, pain points, and improvement opportunities.
  • Ensure cross‑functional alignment on scope, requirements, process changes, and solution direction.
  • Provide architectural guidance throughout the project lifecycle to maintain alignment with enterprise standards and strategic goals.

Governance, Standards & Portfolio Oversight

  • Establish and maintain governance frameworks for project intake, prioritization, and architectural compliance.
  • Review project proposals, solution designs, and change requests to ensure alignment with business architecture and enterprise strategy.
  • Maintain business capability models, process standards, and architectural documentation repositories.
  • Support portfolio governance by evaluating initiative value, feasibility, and alignment with long‑term transformation objectives.

Process Optimization & Enterprise Alignment

  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes, eliminate redundancies, and enhance end‑to‑end value delivery.
  • Partner with enterprise architects to ensure cohesive alignment between business, data, application, and technology architectures.
  • Promote standardization, reuse, and best practices across business processes and project teams.
  • Drive continuous improvement through maturity assessments, process audits, and lessons‑learned reviews.

Quality Assurance, Risk Management & Compliance

  • Validate that project deliverables meet defined business requirements, architectural standards, and compliance obligations.
  • Support testing activities by ensuring traceability from requirements to test cases and acceptance criteria.
  • Identify risks related to business processes, organizational change, and solution design; recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure governance checkpoints are completed and documented throughout the project lifecycle.

Documentation, Communication & Change Enablement

  • Create and maintain business architecture documentation including:
  • capability maps
  • process flows
  • business requirements
  • governance frameworks
  • decision logs
  • architectural assessments
  • Communicate complex concepts clearly to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Support change management team
  • Support change management teams with impact assessments, stakeholder mapping, and communication planning.

Qualifications – Required

  • 10+ years of experience in business architecture, enterprise analysis, or strategic consulting.
  • Strong expertise in:
  • business capability modeling
  • process mapping (BPMN or equivalent)
  • requirements elicitation and documentation
  • project initiation and business case development
  • governance frameworks and portfolio management
  • Proven ability to lead cross‑functional workshops and drive alignment among diverse stakeholders.
  • Solid understanding of enterprise systems, digital transformation principles, and end‑to‑end business processes.
  • Exceptional communication, facilitation, and analytical skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with enterprise architecture frameworks (TOGAF, BIZBOK, Zachman).
  • Familiarity with SAP S/4HANA, ERP modernization, or large‑scale transformation programs.
  • Knowledge of project management methodologies (Agile, SAFe, Waterfall).
  • Experience with architecture tools such as LeanIX, Ardoq, Bizzdesign, or Signavio.
  • Certifications such as:
  • Certified Business Architect (CBA)
  • TOGAF
  • CBAP
  • PMP or Agile certifications
