The role of Section Manager Environmental Health and Systems is responsible for coordinating and managing the section to deliver public health and environmental compliance and audit programs in a cost effective and thorough manner in accordance with relevant legislation.
Reporting to the Unit Manager Environmental Compliance Services, this role will see you provide day to day leadership to a team of dedicated professionals responsible for safeguarding and regulating environment and public health activities across the Central Coast region. This will be achieved through monitoring, auditing and educating the community on relevant legislation.
This position is required to provide quality customer service and create value for the community.
Key activities of this role include:
oversee the complex and sometimes politically sensitive environment compliance processes while maintaining a high standard of customer service and quality control in line with Council's corporate objectivescoordinate and manage service requests processed by the section with the major focus on achieving timely liaison and communication with complainants and ensuring that any enforcement action is taken in accordance with relevant legislation and in accordance with Council policyprepare court evidence and represent Council in legal proceedings concerning any matters within the scope of the positionsupport the Unit Manager Environmental Compliance Services and Director Environment and Planning by keeping them informed of legislative changes and potentially controversial matters.Our position description provides more information on this role.
Essential Criteria:
tertiary qualification in Environmental Health, Environmental Science, Building Surveying, Twon Planning or relevant field OR extensive solid contemporary experience in a similar role combined with ongoing professional developmentexperience in a similar role in a large organisationproven success as a leader with the ability to grow and develop teams focused on quality outcomes and a customer focusbroad and comprehensive experience in all aspects of Environmental and Public Health compliancecourt experience in a variety of casesexpert knowledge of all relevant legislation, and principles of best practice as well as emerging case lawexperience managing projects and investigations processes resolving complex multidisciplinary environmental issues whilst ensuring innovation and public participation experience working with a diverse range of staff and stakeholders at a management level.A vehicle is provided for official duties and private use leaseback is available in accordance with Council's Vehicle Policy.
Council may create an eligibility list from this recruitment process and may utilise this list to fill other permanent or temporary vacancies.
