About SecondShop

At SecondShop, we're a team of Canadians who believe in doing better—for our country, your wallets, and our planet.

We started with a simple idea: why should perfectly good products go to waste or sit unsold when people like you are out there looking for smart ways to save? We have made it our mission to source the highest quality open-box, overstocked, and scratch-and-dent products from the top brands - offering them to Canadians at up to 50% off. But we are not just about savings - we're about changing how people shop. Say goodbye to paying full price and hello to smarter spending.

As we scale, we're building an analytical core to ensure we maximise inventory value, turnover velocity, and margin while delivering excellent choice to our customers.

Role Overview

As Senior Category Analyst at SecondShop, you will own the end-to-end analytics and strategy around inventory disposition, allocation, and channel optimization. Your role is critical in balancing supply, demand, and price points — ensuring that each product moves through the right channel at the right time and at the right margin.

You will translate data into actionable strategies, influence cross-functional decision-making (operations, merchandising, sales) and drive KPIs that matter: days in inventory, conversion rate, and product-level margin.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead inventory disposition optimisation — analyze ageing stock, mix of new/refurb/mixed-condition inventory, and recommend disposition strategies (e.g., promotion, clearance, channel reallocation) to minimise days in inventory and write-offs.
  • Enhance our mixed-condition to refurb consumer collection: define which items are candidates for refurbishment, analyse refurbishment costs vs resale value, and build a data-driven process to prioritise refurbishment vs disposition.
  • Manage product allocation across sales channels (e.g., refurbished-only marketplace, "as-is" clearance channel, online storefront, seasonal/promotional sales) to maximise turnover speed and enable price arbitrage where appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards, reports and forecasts that enable real-time and strategic decision-making for inventory flow, turnover, and margin.
  • Set and track KPIs — e.g.: days-in-inventory, sell-through rate, product margin per channel, cost of refurbishment vs return, clearance yield, etc.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Purchasing / Procurement, Operations, Warehouse/Logistics, Merchandising/Category, and Sales teams to ensure alignment on inventory strategies.
  • Provide regular insights & recommendations to senior leadership to inform buy-in, strategy shifts, inventory write-downs or liquidation, and refurbishment investments.
  • You will be responsible for the following
  • Reduction in average days in inventory
  • Sell-through rate and time-to-sale per channel
  • Improvement in product margin (overall and per-channel)
  • Percentage of mixed-condition items successfully refurbished and resold vs disposed
  • Reduction in inventory write-offs and clearance losses
  • Inventory turnover velocity and channel yield

Who we're looking for:

  • ~5+ years experience in inventory / category / supply-chain / retail analytics or similar roles (ideally in e-commerce, retail, or resale/second-hand/refurb space) (Himalayas)
  • Strong analytical skills — proficiency with Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, advanced formulas), comfortable with data analysis, reporting and dashboarding (Adaptive US)
  • Experience working with inventory management systems / ERP / database reporting tools; SQL or equivalent data-querying skills a plus.
  • Ability to interpret complex data sets and turn them into actionable strategies (not just reporting) — comfortable with ambiguous/mixed-condition inventory and trade-offs (e.g. refurb cost vs resale value).
  • Strong cross-functional communication skills — able to influence stakeholders (ops, purchasing, sales) and present findings to non-technical audiences.
  • Strategic mindset with a results-driven, improvement-focused approach; able to prioritise and act under time pressure with multiple inventory variables.

What we offer:

  • A competitive base salary, along with a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Access to exclusive discounts on SecondShop products for yourself and your family.
  • As a growing startup, SecondShop offers ample opportunities to take on new challenges, contribute to shaping the company's future, and take ownership of key initiatives.
  • Join a passionate and mission-driven team that values collaboration, innovation, and a shared commitment to sustainability and responsible shopping.
  • Align with a company that believes in sustainability, smart spending, and improving the lives of Canadians. You'll have the chance to make an impact every day
