Located at the School Board Office at 3143 Jacklin Road in Langford, the Finance Department of School District No. 62 (Sooke) is seeking to add another full-time permanent Payroll Technician to our Payroll Services Unit.
Adjacent to Victoria on southern Vancouver Island, School District No. 62 (Sooke) is the fastest growing school district on Vancouver Island and one of the fastest growing districts in BC. The District operates in five municipalities: Langford, Colwood, Metchosin, Sooke and the Highlands and acknowledges the traditional territories of the Coast Salish: T'Sou-ke Nation and Scia'new Nation and Nuu-chah-nulth: Pacheedaht Nation. We also recognize some of our schools reside on the traditional territory of Esquimalt Nation and Songhees Nation. The District employs over 2,300 educators and support staff and serves over 14,000 students The District's Strategic Plan looks ahead to the future and focuses on three priority areas: learning, engagement and growth.
Payroll Technician
Permanent/Full-time (40 hrs per week, 2080 hours annually)
In this highly confidential and specialized role, the Payroll Technician will be responsible for the efficient, accurate, and timely planning and delivery of multiple payrolls. The Payroll Technician will work in collaboration with Human Resources and Finance to innovate and improve current processes, while responding to inquiries and requests from employees and internal/external stakeholders

If you possess the above qualities, please submit a cover letter and resume outlining your education and experience in the following areas:
- Grade 12 and Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) certification, additional courses in Accounting or related area, or equivalent combination of training and experience;
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in payroll production including experience in a highly complex computerized system in a unionized environment;
- Demonstrated knowledge of payroll reporting requirements, pension and benefit plan administration, payroll legislation, regulations, acts, union contracts and SD62 policies and procedures;
- Proven team building skills and collaborative working relationships.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills, both written and oral;
- Ability in exercising discretion in determining the importance and/or urgency of correspondence, telephone calls, and the accounting and payroll schedule;
- Respects the confidentiality of all matters related to the position;
- Extensive experience in a modern complex payroll/HRIS system, including demonstrated ability to implement, develop and test new systems, functionality and upgrades;
- Extensive knowledge of MS Office software, with a focus on Excel, as well as proficiency in a Windows environment;
- Preference will be given to applicants with Atrieve (PowerSchool) software experience.

The hourly rate of pay for this full-time Payroll Technician position is $35.13 ($73,070 annually).
