The Role
Are you ready to launch your career at the forefront of industrial automation?

As a Junior Robotics & Controls Specialist in London, ON, you'll become part of a supportive team of problem solvers and creative thinkers, working together to design, build, and integrate custom automation solutions. You'll have the opportunity to further develop your skills in controls programming, machine vision, and robotics, while collaborating with experienced technical leaders who will guide you through unique engineering challenges. This position reports to the
Controls Engineering Manager.
Key Responsibilities

  • Support the engineering team during the early project stages by assisting with the development of functional specifications and contributing to design direction under guidance from senior team members.
  • Assist the mechanical and electrical design teams in the selection, testing, and integration of hardware such as robots, motion controllers, sensors, and vision systems.
  • Design and develop code for automation equipment (PLCs, HMIs, Industrial Robots, Vision Systems) aligning with functional requirements and Convergix's internal programming standards.
  • Design and develop software programs tailored to customer and project requirements, following standard Convergix programming methods.
  • Debug and commission control systems during integration at Convergix's facility and customer sites.
  • Conduct comprehensive testing of machine functionality to ensure the integrity and compliance of the system with customer specifications.
  • Travel to customer and supplier sites for installation, commissioning, and training purposes.
  • Work collaboratively with customers, project managers, designers, toolmakers, and electricians to provide comprehensive and functional automation systems.
  • Prepare accurate documentation for each project including operator, maintenance, and training manuals for each project.
  • Provide technical problem-solving support and training to customers.

Note: The nature of the role may require working over weekends or outside standard business hours. Trips to customer sites in North America several times per year, with travel expectations of up to 20% of your time, typically lasting 1-2 weeks.

Essential
Qualifications and Experience

  • Passion and dedication for learning automation and controls programming and commissioning methodologies within industrial automation
  • Degree or Diploma in Computer Science, Mechanical, Electrical or Mechatronics Engineering and/or sufficient industry experience and training
  • Machine Vision experience, AI Machine Learning, Cognex or Keyence Inspection experience are an asset
  • Knowledge of custom machine building and processes including iRVision, conveyance, Servos and VFDs, etc. are an asset
  • Ability to work openly in a team environment and communicate ideas and problems clearly to project teams
  • Strong ability to work with Allen Bradley Studio 5000 software, Factory Talk View HMI development and robotic simulation software such as Fanuc RoboGuide
  • Experience with other PLC's and accompanying software such as Siemens TIA Portal
  • Reliable transportation and the ability to travel; Robotics & Controls Specialist at should have the ability to travel within North America and Europe

Desirable

  • Priority will be given to candidates who possess familiarity with Allen Bradley PLC and HMIs, Fanuc and ABB robotics, and Ignition HMI's
  • Familiarity with electrical schematics
  • Familiarity with common industrial networking protocols
  • Knowledge of CSA Safety Standards especially relating to Cobots
  • Great attitude, enthusiasm and willingness to learn new challenges

Physical Demands

  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to feel objects, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, talk and hear.
  • Occasionally lifts or move up to 25 pounds.
