Summary:

FET is currently hiring for an Accountant I, 12 month Maternity Leave position. This position is a full time office role, based at our office in SW Edmonton. Under general supervision, the Accountant I position performs general accounting work that is varied and that may be somewhat difficult in character, but usually involving limited responsibility. May prepare journal entries and reconciliations, reviews and verifies the accuracy of journal entries, accounting methods and procedures. Handles special projects, as assigned. Active participation in FET's Health, Safety and Environment program is required.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Ensure Sox compliance is met through all financial transactions and processes, including internal document testing.
  • Prepare monthly reporting and assist with month-end, quarter-end and year-end closing. Perform account reconciliations.
  • Assist in Audits providing requested information on a timely basis.
  • Interface with management in various departments, providing information and various analyses daily.
  • Support special projects or financial analysis when needed by management.
  • Support initiatives for process improvements.
  • Creating, entering and reviewing journal entries.
  • Reviewing and coding expenses.
  • Payment processing.
  • Assist in other duties as required.

Skills/Knowledge

  • Possesses and applies knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Experience with ERP systems preferred.
  • Strong computer skills including but not limited Microsoft Excel.
  • Attention to detail with analytical skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication capabilities.
  • Ability to handle multiple activities and maintain deadlines.
  • Previous experience with data analysis skills required.

Education

  • Degree in Accounting / Finance preferred or equivalent experience.

Experience

  • 2+ years of experience or Degree in Accounting / Finance.
