Education

  • Graduate from an accredited program for medical assistants with one year in a medical office setting preferred.

Experience / Qualifications

  • BLS certification through the American Heart Association for Healthcare Providers.
  • Medical Assistance Certification preferred.
  • Knowledge of the outpatient practice of medicine. 
  • Must have experience in medical assisting. 
  • Knowledge of medical practice, patient care skills, examination, diagnostic and treatment room procedures. 
  • Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care. 
  • Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.  
  • Must possess computer skills and customer service skills. 
  • Capable of making sound decisions. 
  • Detail oriented and self motivated.

Position Summary

The Float Medical Assistant is a multi skilled specialist who assists the physician in all aspects of the medical practice under the direct responsibility of the physician. Responsibilities include assisting with the patient care management, executes administrative and clinical procedures and performs supervisory functions pertaining to position.  Competency requires that the medical assistant adheres to ethical and legal standards of professional practice, recognize and respond to emergencies and demonstrates professional characteristics.

  • Collecting and preparing laboratory specimens
  • Updating patient medical records
  • Answering phones
  • Scheduling appointments
  • Removing sutures and dressings
  • Transmitting prescription refills

Physical Requirements

  • This job can be physically demanding at times requiring stooping, sitting, standing, and walking for long periods of time.  The team member will need to frequently assist lifting patients and heavy equipment. Must be able to work in a stressful environment, work independently, making sound decisions, detail oriented, alert, and self-motivated. Ability to push/pull up to 40lbs, carry and lift up to 50lbs

    • Annual Joint Commission mandatory education requirements, in-service and health requirements including attendance at new employee orientation
    • TB/PPD Surveillance Program
    • Maintenance of required professional licensing and/or certification(s).
