About the Position

We are seeking a highly motivated
Research Technician
to join the
North American Insect Center
of NRGene Canada. In this role, you will be involved in the daily operations related to the growth and maintenance of
Black Soldier Fly (BSF)
colonies.

Our facilities include laboratory spaces for BSF rearing, phenotyping, and genotyping, as well as a production area for commercial-scale activities. The center is located within the
Innovation Saskatchewan Research and Technology (R+T) Park
in Saskatoon, SK.

This is a full-time,
on-site position
, open to
Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or individuals with a valid Canadian work permit

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead individual research projects in the lab
  • Provide support for additional NAIC R&D initiatives and operations
  • Prepare feed and rear BSF colonies
  • Perform BSF phenotyping and collect relevant data
  • Dissect BSF and extract/store DNA samples
  • Maintain BSF rearing and growth facilities
  • Collect samples for genotyping and data analysis

Our Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • A
    Bachelor's or Master's degree
    (or equivalent) in life sciences or a closely related field
  • Experience in data analysis and using analytical software
  • Programming skills in tools such as
    R
    or
    Python
    (an asset)
  • Experience working with insects and/or insect breeding (an asset)
  • Laboratory experience and knowledge of safety regulations
  • Flexibility and willingness to work
    outside standard hours
    , including weekends and holidays, when required
