Position Summary
The successful candidate will perform a variety of tasks relating to the maintenance, repair and installation of lock systems.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
- installing, repairing, rebuilding, adjusting, and servicing mechanical or electrical locking devices
- changing and repairing lock combinations through the use of tumblers
- cutting duplicate or new keys from existing keys, patterns or codes
- rebuilding safes and other locking devices
- completing service paperwork, and maintain confidential client records
- replacing worn tumblers, springs, and other parts as necessary
- disassembling a variety of locking units
- providing consultation and assist internal customers in problems with locking mechanisms
- installing all types of door hardware
maintaining records of key holders
Education/Qualifications
- valid Alberta Journeyperson or Interprovincial Locksmith Certificate
- valid Alberta Driver's License
- experience working in a school or institutional environment is considered an asset
- experience with commercial hardware is considered an asset
experience with the installation and repair of card access locks is considered an asset
Skills and Abilities
- must have the ability to: lift at least 25kg; climb ladders, work at heights, kneel, stand and walk for extended periods; perform work in awkward positions
- must be able to undertake tasks requiring good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
- good problem solving, organizational, time management, and record keeping skills
- excellent verbal and written communication skills
- computer literacy
- ability to work independently or on a team
ability to establish and maintain master key systems and work independently on a wide range of equipment
Rate of Pay
$42.07 per hour
Advance on expenses (Vehicle Allowance) of $450.09 bi-weekly

Closing
Hours: 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m, shift work may be required depending upon weather and seasonal workload
The successful candidate must:
- provide all trade related hand tools
- be prepared to use personal vehicle to travel to Division schools and buildings
- be available to attend after hours emergencies
- satisfactorily complete training required by the Division, including but not limited to occupational health and safety courses (ex. First Aid, WHMIS, Confined Spaces, Asbestos training and other training as required)
- adhere to all safe work procedures as well as Division policies and practices
- actively engage in professional learning and committees as assigned
