On behalf of our client, Stone Tile International, Gilmore Partners has been retained to help recruit a new Chief Supply Chain Officer.
Stone Tile International is a Canadian importer and distributor of premium surface materials, specializing in high-end tiles, natural stone, and architectural surfaces. Family-run and entering into their 35th year in business, Stone Tile is headquartered in Toronto, with multiple showrooms/warehouses across Canada, including Vancouver, Calgary, and Montreal. Stone Tile serves both commercial and residential markets.
We are seeking a results-driven Chief Supply Chain Officer (CSCO) with deep expertise in supply chain, procurement, logistics, warehousing, and inventory operations to architect and lead a world-class, scalable supply chain infrastructure. This executive will own end-to-end supply chain strategy and execution, ensuring the organization achieves aggressive targets in operational efficiency, cost optimization, working capital improvement, and customer satisfaction.
The CSCO will build foundational systems, processes, KPIs, and teams while aligning supply chain performance directly to financial outcomes, including inventory turns, OPEX as a percentage of sales, supplier performance, and overall cash flow. This is a hands-on leadership role charged with transforming supply chain operations into a competitive advantage.
Key Responsibilities
1. Supply Chain Strategy & Optimization
• Develop and execute a best-in-class, end-to-end supply chain strategy with clear KPIs across cost, efficiency, speed, and service.
• Improve cash flow by optimizing procurement practices, reducing lead times, and increasing inventory turns.
• Deploy modern supply chain technologies, planning tools, and automation to enhance forecasting, ordering, and demand planning.
• Build a multi-year roadmap that supports growth, scalability, and operational excellence.
2. Inventory Management
• Increase inventory turns.
• Achieve and sustain inventory accuracy across all facilities through SOPs, cycle counting, and audit protocols.
• Implement data-driven inventory allocation and replenishment strategies across the network.
• Reduce stranded, obsolete, and slow-moving inventory through disciplined forecasting and SKU optimization.
3. Warehouse Network Development
• Architect a world-class warehouse network with ABC classification, optimized layout design, and maximum throughput efficiency.
• Establish and track performance metrics including:
o Order pick accuracy & efficiency
o Shipping error rates
o Processing and fulfilment cycle times
• Drive warehouse automation, WMS enhancements, and real-time tracking for best-in-class fulfilment performance.
• Oversee sample operations and ensure showroom, sales, and operational alignment.
4. Logistics & Freight Management
• Lead the organization's inbound and outbound logistics strategy, covering internal fleets and external transportation partners.
• Negotiate favourable freight terms and SLAs while ensuring reliability, scalability, and on-time delivery performance.
• Optimize routing, transportation modes, and carrier selection to reduce cost per order and improve delivery speed.
• Build the foundation for a next-generation transportation system, including Uber-like daily delivery optimization.
5. Supplier Management & Procurement
• Oversee all supplier relationships, performance, and contract negotiations.
• Develop supplier scorecards with metrics tied to cost, quality, lead time, and reliability.
• Enforce accountability to service levels, compliance, and continuous improvement expectations.
• Build a resilient, diversified supplier base that mitigates risk and supports growth.
6. Operational Performance & Financial Alignment
• Partner with the CFO to design performance-based operational bonus programs aligned with revenue, profitability, and efficiency KPIs.
• Improve OPEX as a % of sales through waste reduction, labour optimisation, and process simplification.
• Own department budgets, forecasting, capital planning, and cost-saving initiatives.
• Manage capital budgets for facilities, warehouse expansion, gallery construction, and infrastructure upgrades.
7. Samples & Facilities Management
• Lead the Samples Department to achieve fast, accurate fulfilment across all sales and showroom environments.
• Manage Facilities operations to ensure every site (warehouses, showrooms, offices) is safe, clean, efficient, and ready for growth.
• Implement preventative maintenance programs, facility vendor oversight, and upgrades tied to long-term operational needs.
8. Acquisition Integration
• Lead all supply chain, logistics, and operations components of acquisitions—from due diligence through post-integration.
• Conduct operational audits and develop integration plans for supply chain systems, facilities, transportation, and vendor networks.
• Ensure seamless alignment of acquired entities to core processes, technology platforms, and cost.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations, Engineering, or a related field (MBA preferred).
- Minimum 10 years of experience in supply chain, logistics, or operations leadership, including 5+ years in a senior or executive role.
- Demonstrated success in improving inventory turns, reducing OPEX, and implementing logistics KPIs at scale.
- Deep experience in WMS, ERP, and logistics platforms; data-driven with a passion for process improvement.
- Proven ability to build high-performance teams, lead change, and scale operations for growth.
- Strong negotiation, budgeting, and vendor management skills.
